Cats?

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience bringing cats, or other pets, to college.. I know very few colleges allow cats in their dorms and I will not pick out my college based on cat policy... However I'm wondering if there is any possible option to keep a cat around? Like an animal hotel or something? And if anyone has experience with this?

I would never consider getting a cat while in college because I don't think it's right for the cat to live in such a tiny place, or for me or roommates to have to deal with cleaning up after it.. But I already HAVE a cat, and my parents will NOT keep her. If I can't bring her to college with me they will drop her at an animal shelter. I do not have any friends who can keep her for me either. Has anyone had a similar experience? Are there places where you can pay to have your animals kept, long term, in nice facilities? And would this be a good idea, if there are? I would not want to force my cat to live in a dorm room even if it was allowed, but I also don't want to lose her.

Also I am not starting college this fall, or I would have already found an answer to this. I am going to be a senior in HS, but I want to look into my options beforehand.

[Bring Your Pet to College - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2011/05/19/bring-your-pet-to-college)

Good, recent article on this. Pets can great, but as a college student, they’re hard to afford.

Are there any colleges close to you to which you could commute? That might be an option.

Your best bet is to live in an apartment off campus rather than in the dorms.

^definitely get an apartment if you can’t go to one of the pet-friendly colleges.

If you do decide that you want an off-campus apartment, make sure that your school would let you live off-campus as a freshman.

I doubt you can bring a lot of pets into most dorms.

Contact your local Humane Society or Animal Aid and inquire as to whether they have foster families available. Personally, I would not want my kid to miss out on dorm life as a freshman as it is the best situation for meeting people and getting used to college life without having to deal with transportation and the utility bills and grocery shopping that come with apartment life.
