Caught cheating during High School Freshman

Hey everyone,

I was caught cheating on Spanish test and consequently I got 0 on it. There was no conference and discipline actions at all. Do you think it went on my permanent record?..

And if it is recorded, how will this affect me getting into good colleges? I transferred to mew high school as junior, will my new guidance counselor receive all information about me?.. I know that there is a question about academic misconduct, should I check yes, even though I did not get any discipline actions?

Excellent news. Don’t cheat!

I would guess the zero was your punishment. Ask to see a copy of your transcript and if there’s nothing there, just let it go and don’t report.

Bump. Other opinions would be appreciated

Can you describe what happened? Did your teacher just confiscate your test, or did adminsitration become involved too?

My spanish teacher confiscated my test. There was no involve with adminsitration… I did not get any contact. I just got 0 on the test.

You could probably ask your counselor about it.

I moved to new high school, so I don’t know what to do…

Transcripts contain course listings and final grades. Although you got a 0 on the test, what was your grade for the class?

I got B in class 86.
I would like to know what the transcript actually contains that colleges see.Do they contains only grades ?

Google high school transcripts and look at images. Transcripts contain your name, high school, high school ID, course name, course number, grades and credits. Sometimes transcripts list GPA by semester and your cumulative grades. Here’s a sample transcript from a link for California guidance counselors: http://collegetools.berkeley.edu/resources.php?cat_id=50</a>. And another sample: http://www.triangleeducationassessments.com/images/P/transcript.jpg</a></p>

Given that the only comments on a transcript pertains to disciplinary actions, such as suspensions or expulsions, I think you caught a break.

What do you mean by “you caught a break?”
Also, can junior ask a office to get a copy of transcript?

At some high school’s, if you are caught cheating on a test, it’s an automatic suspension which does go on your official transcript. Sometimes, if you are caught cheating on a test, your name and the story gets printed in newspapers and it’s an automatic transfer to another school – and the reason for the transfer goes on your transcript for every college to see. That’s especially true when the principal of a school is forced out for allowing you to cheat:

You are one lucky kid to just get a zero on the test and a B in the class with no further action.

Your high school should periodically give you a copy of your transcript to check for errors. My kids were given a copy at the end of their sophomore and junior years. If you have transferred schools, your new guidance counselor should have received a copy of your old high school transcript. Ask to see it, or ask your old high school for a copy.

It was a just small spanish quiz. I did not get any discipline action such as suspension, expulsion, etc. :(( do you think it will go on my transcript?

As I said, you seem to have caught a break as you did not receive a suspension or expulsion, which usually go on transcripts. There’s only one way to find out though: ask your new GC if you can see your transcript from your old school to check for any errors.

Thank you so much! Can you take a look at my another thread titled “not rigorous class…blah blah”. You seem to know a lot about college application with your 2 kids at harvard and yale… wooah I would like your opinions!

OMG WE ARE TWINNING HERE! Im currently an incoming sophomore at a new school. FYI I came from a public high school and was accepted to one of the top private schools! Oh YEAH… so during my last exam for SPANISH in my public school I WAS CAUGHT CHEATING and the teacher also just took my test and gave me a big fat 0. Its like exactly identical situation since I was also worrying like hell about if the private school would receive this info. no sweat buddy… I specifically went to check my records and its completely clean! As long as the teacher didn’t take the cheating to the admin the chaos ends with just a 0. So now I hope u don’t lose anymore sleep over this  oh btw i also got a B as well in Spanish becuz of the cheating… We both got the best out of a nightmare situation XD cheers buddy lol
