Caught with weed, PLEASE HELP!

Hi!

So I am currently a freshman at Kent State University. 4.0 GPA, honors college student, overall not a bad kid. But I did get hung up in a bad crowd. While I was with my friends (I was not participating but I have smoked before), we all got ticketed for possession of marijuana by a university police officer, which is a misdemeanor and after completing a class and community service will be wiped from my record. I am less afraid of legal consequences than Kent’s. Will I lose my scholarships? I know I will probably be placed on disciplinary probation based on a friend’s experience, but what does that entail?

If you are to be sanctioned by a university, you’ll probably have a hearing first, and during that process you can ask questions about the consequences of this disciplinary action. I’d say it’s unlikely you’d lose your scholarship over this first offense, but you have to find out from Kent State specifically.

Disciplinary probation usually just means you need to be on your best behavior for 1-2 semesters, because another infraction can mean you’re out. However, your university undoubtedly has a handbook where you can look up what it means at Kent State specifically.
