CC: A factor in making us over achievers and...nerds?

i just realized that CC isn't just a forum i go on for fun anymore. in fact, i came to the conclusion that it actually STIMULATES a desire in me to do more academically and...well, study.

i know it sounds a little off place (lol), but seeing all these threads with contents like-

"4.00 UW GPA; 4.86 W"
"2340 on the SAT [in reference to Ashraf Eassa, lol]"
"800 on Math II, Physics, and World History"
"2nd place in a Regional Physics competition"
"I self studied Calc AB, Comp Sci AB, and Stats and scored a 5 on each (rupac XD)"
"I missed being a National AP Scholar by 1 point"
"What did you all get on your Calc BC Exams?!"
People who responded: "5!"

and other threads where people claim calc bc is easy (while in my school its known as one of the hardest courses...lol)

all these things make me think, "wow, if they can do this, why can't i?" assuming that everyone who does this DOES have a life (i mean, being on CC while being that academically impressive can show some sort of a life besides hitting the books), i feel like i can do the same

so in a sense, CC helps push me forward. it might sound obvious, but i just realized that now..

i've come to the conclusion to self-study ap human geo and env sci next year while taking chem/calc bc/APUSH/AP Lang/Psych

i feel that with this stimulation from CC, i can rise above my peers in school who are afraid of self-studying, afraid of calc bc, afraid of all these classes while people on CC aren't intimidated as much (well, that just sounded cynical in a way)

thoughts? lol..

/rant

...Wow.

I agree that it's a semi-motivation; I've reduced my gaming time by 1 hr everyday (BIG difference): from 8 hours a day to 7. On schooldays, I've scheduled it to 4 hrs of gaming, 2 hrs of computer or 3 hrs of gaming, 3 hours of computer...SIGNIFICANT change from last year.

I'm also reading, something I never do. I've read more the past two weeks than I did this ENTIRE year during school. Not studying at all yet, but it's kicking on somehow.

Overall, though, I'm still lazy and not too much different...it's a luck I stumbled onto this site, but arbitrary people on a website only gets you so far.

wow, nice.

i managed to cut down on how many asian dramas i would watch each day.

well..it would be from 1-2 episodes a day (each episode is 1 hour long, lol) to 0!

there HAVE to be more experiences on how academically astute people have become due to CC

share!!

Haha the only reason I'd cut down on bad habits is because now I'm spending that time [in which I would have been bad-habit-ing] on CC :/

Yay, I'm famous :)

Yeah.. i've been thinking that for some time, and it really does work. After seeing this forum at the end of freshman year, it really inspired me to work much harder, and i wouldn't be where i am today if i simply compared myself to the students at my school.

However, CC does incude alot of pressure and stress. There should be like a warning sign when a person first registers here. This site is very misleading w/ posts such as "BC Calc.. Psshhhh... easiest class ever. I took it in 11th grade." or "AP Chem is a joke of a class." Most people do not realize that you don't have to be like a CCer to get in to an ivy or top 10 school.

Yeah, it vaguely makes me try harder.
It made me expect a 5 on my APs, not just wish for one.

CC's definitely a good motivator. I just wish I found the site sooner.

Yay, I just realized I'm a member now :]

EDIT - and that's why CC motivates me

It's also a method of procrastination.

Like, right now, I should be reading this book about astrobiology for school. It's sitting here right in front of me, but instead, I'm replying to this thread.

lol, that's true. It's motivation yet a source for procrastination. But really, CC has motivated me to work harder and not compare myself to the lazy louts at school anymore.

Contradiction to motivation. This site made me realize how inferior I feel toward this process. In a peculiar way, it may motivate you, but also leave you feeling despondent of the reality of the college admissions process.

Good day.

Do NOT study Human Geo. It's such a waste of time and not many colleges (that you're looking at since you're on CC) give credit for it.

I regret self studying Psych this year (even though I got a 5). I wish I would've studied something more interesting/important like Econ. I also self studied Comp Gov (another 5), and I would still recommend that course. It's really interesting.

Take more of a chance with your self studies; this year I'm selfing Chem and both Econs.

well, a lot of the reason i'm self studying is because of general interest..

i'm taking psychology as a class next year, and i heard the teacher is good and the class will be nice too, so i'm looking forward to it

US gov't/comp gov't and both eco's are offered in senior year, so i'm going to wait until then to take them, though i am eager to take economics..XD

sorry about your experiences though ):

I'm taking econ this coming senior year and can't wait since I plan to major in economics in college.

CC DOES NOT motivate me, however I learn a lot of stuff here so it worths my time. This is pretty stupid but I always felt I have the edge on my peers because I spend my time on CC and they spend their time on halo.

I'm pretty sure CC has actually broken a few spirits because they find out they're not as competitive of an applicant as they thought they were.

^ mine
(10 chars)

I know. It is my motivation now, no longer my parents badgering for I know more about college than them...and possibly my guidance counsler. I used to think that a 2000 SAT would make you a god, but now I realize that you are at a disadvantage with that score when you apply to THE schools.

On the other hand, I know spend 2 hours on CC a day, while I could me excercising, memorizing my lines for the play I am in, waking up earlier, finishing the 3 summer assignments I have, preping for volleyball tryouts, ect. Oh well, at least I feel I am surrounded by more interesting people here. :)

Lmao. Oh really...

But yeah, I agree that it can crush some spirits, as it did for me the first 2 hours while I was here, but I'm typically not one to give a damn about the performances of others.
