CC --> CSU LongBeach

Im applying for CSU LB, im done with igetc but im missing a single speech class for transfer. If im planning on taking Speech over the summer, would it affect my chances of admission for fall? Should i call them and ask?

Technically, I believe all courses required to transfer from a CCC to a CSU have to be completed by the end of the Spring semester prior to enrolling although apparently exceptions are made. Keep in mind though that CSULB gets over 70,000 applications a year to fill about 4,000 positions so they may not be terribly flexible.

I’ve maintained a relatively high GPA, what do you mean by exceptions?

Why do you want to go to CSULB? That’s an honest question. CSUs, IMHO, made more sense in previous years, but at this point I’d really suggest a UC. Between not being charged fees if your family makes less than $70k, having a better academic reputation, and having guaranteed admission with a 3.0, UCs are a really good option.

To answer your question directly… It could. Call them.

@Lemaitre1 makes a good point about the sheer number of applications. The out-of-area cut off GPA for Fullerton, for instance, was 3.7 last year. Yes, 3.7! (This comes straight from their admissions department.) If you didn’t go to an Orange County CCC, and you had a 3.6 GPA, CSU Fullerton wouldn’t even consider you, but UCI, UCSB, UCSD, and UCD would guarantee you admission, and you’d have a pretty good shot at UCLA and Berkeley. Things are getting really goofy.

prereqs for the UCs are harder though.

that said didn’t know admissions were THAT tough at the CSUs. I got into both CSULB and CSUF for business admin-finance which is impacted.

truth be told though, try to take the speech courses ASAP.
and consider the UCs as mentioned.
