I'm going to be attending Irvine Valley College this coming year, however I already have 21 credits carrying over from a previous school. Is it possible to get my 39 credits this year (taking classess this summer) then apply for admission to UCLA starting after the fall session? Along the same lines, would it be possible to apply to UCLA starting next year, even if 1/2-1/3 of my classess are yet to be taken? I'd really like to get into a UC as soon as possible, hence the summer classes, preffereably sometime next year. Does anyone know if this is not only possible, but realistic? Thank you.

as long as you have a minimum of 60 units by the end of this spring, you'll be fine

When exactly can I apply to UCLA? Can I do this after the spring semester, or does it give me an advantage to do it earlier? It would be better to apply after spring semester (as I would have my 60 credits completed) because the 21 credits I carry over don't have the best grades. I just don't want to start an applicatoin with 30 out of 60 credits completed....I wanna give the admissions people a good view of who they are looking at.

As long as you have 60 units by time of transfer they'd consider you.

That's you choice. If you think you wont make it, then skip a year and apply during Fall 2007 (better chance as a Fall transfer).

I'd still suggest that you apply. You never know, you might make it.

ucla accepts only fall and winter transfers

so if you wanna get in for winter -- apply now

if you wanna get in next fall (08)--you apply this fall

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/dates_deadlines.html from this website, which is a bit confusing, it appears to me that nov 1-30 is the application filing period for fall 2007 applicants. If I did this then my application would only have 21 credits on it, with 39 pending.... not looking to good to let someone in who has only completed 1/3 of an application.

I think the first part of the application process is just for you to show that you are eligable. At the end of the Fall semester (around January), you send in you new set of grades. That will show them that you have completed those much needed classes, and may well be on your way to have 60 units by the end of Spring.

Thanks for the help pellman, guess I'll try and get my 40 credits by january. Is it advisable to take 19/20 credits a quarter? to me this constitutes about 7 classess? Or should I stick to 14/15 and take some winter classess to make up for it.... either way I wanna be at UCLA next fall so I wanna try and slam out the 39 credits I have left as soon as possible

Are you on quarter or semester system?

You don't need to finish 40 credits by Fall/Winter. I have 24 units transferable (29 total), so I am in a similar situation as you. Don't overload yourself because if you end up not being able to handle the work, your GPA might go down.

IVC is on the quarter system, it's just that with my 21 transferrable courses I have a 3.2 gpa, and I'd like to get that up to a 3.5/3.6. I'm worried that if I apply with to few credits from my CC it will keep my gpa in the 3.2 range and reduce my chances of getting in. Whereas if I applied with 40 CC credits + my other 21 then 2/3 of my gpa is from my CC

I don't think they make any decision that regards your GPA until you turn in your Fall grades.

Getting in a UC of your choice also depends on your major. If your major is not impacted and you have TAP to UCLA, then your chances are fairly high. Also, you should write a flawless essay to ensure your chances.

Ok, thanks for the help

the deadline for turning in grades is 2/15 i think

so you might have your winter grades by then

Ok good, thanks all for the help, u cleared many-a-thing up

IVC has semesters not quarters...
