CC to UT Austin? How do my chances look?

Hi, I am finishing my second semester at Houston Community College. I moved from out of state, but after living, working hard, and going to school here, I qualified for in state residency and am an official Texan! I want to transfer to UT Austin for January term of 2015. I will technically have qualified for my AA (only requirements remaining are 14 elective hours). I want to go to UT Austin for Communications/Public Relations.
Here are my stats:

Overall GPA is a solid 3.5 (pretty positive it will go up to a 3.7 by the time I transfer)
Have taken: 1301 Comp,1305 Comp, 2342 Intro to Fiction, 2301 Macroeconomics, 2305 American National Govt, one elec, 1315 Public Speaking, 1301 Art Appreciation

Will take before transferring: 2306 State Local Govt, 2301 Physical Anthropology, 1301 History, 1302 History, 2302 Cultural Anthropology + lab, 1301 Sociology, 1314 College Algebra

I will transfer into UT Austin January term with 42 credits, an instate transfer student, with (hopefully) a 3.6-3.7 GPA. I am a strong writer, so I'm not worried about the 2 application essays. I will have 2-3 recommendation letters from professors at HCC.

Do I have a chance? What can I do to heighten my chances? Who should I see when I visit UT? Application deadline for spring transfers is Oct 1st. I intend to apply as soon as my summer classe grades are posted ie, mid August. Any suggestions? Its really my dream to attend UT Austin! Any advice is helpful!

Your GPA is still low. Get it up to at least 3.7. If you get an opportunity to join Phi Theta Kappa do it. Basically anything honors related, join it. But get that GPA up.

Get involved with some on your current campus, or do some volunteer work or something along those lines before you go. Your GPA is all right, but try to get it up a little bit more just for some extra buffer. I’ve seen people get accepted to UT first round with a 92 on a 100 point scale with a buttload of extracurriculars.
