CC Transfer- Chance me

Hi Everyone,

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. I changed my major in my second semester from psychology to biology, neurobiology, or physiology. So, I didn't start my major pre-reqs until the summer before I applied. Also, I did get one D in my first semester however I retook it soon thereafter and got an A. I applied to UCLA (Neuroscience), UCB (Molecular Bio), UCD (Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior), UCI (Neurobio), UCSD (Physiology and Neuroscience), and UCSB (Physiology). My schedule basically looks like this:

Fall 2010
Macroeconomics- D
Child Development Psych- A
English Comp- A
French 1- B

Winter 2011
Psych 1- A

Spring 2011
Scholars English Lit- A
Scholars Macroecon- A
Scholars Ethical Philo- A
Bio(Physiological) Psych- A
Western Art History- A
UCLA Extension Stats- A

Summer 2011
Chemisry 11- A

Fall 2011
Chemistry 12- A
Biology 21- A
Calculus 1- A
Scholar's Philo 1- A

Winter 2012
Biology 22- A

Spring 2012
Chemistry 21
Biology 23
Calc 2

I used TAG for UCSD and am, as you can probably tell, TAP certified for UCLA. Also IGETC certified. I also worked part-time starting in Spring '11 as an SI Leader for remedial English (teaching review sessions, helping in class, helping in writing lab, preparing lesson plans, etc.). I wrote my general prompt on how growing up as a foster child (foster care and living with my grandfather) because of having a Schizophrenic mother and drug addicted father has shaped my life. Btw my major GPA is 4.0 and my cumulative GPA is right around a 3.9.

Thank you guys for any help :-)!

You listed Chemistry 21 as one of the courses you are now taking, is that the first semester of general chemistry? If so, some schools actually require you to have the entire sequence (2 semesters) of general chemistry done before you transfer.

I just finished looking on assist at some of the schools you listed and the designated majors you applied to and I found a couple that say that the entire sequence is required.

For instance here is what UCI says for neurobiology

“All applicants must complete one year of
general chemistry with laboratory with grades of B or better, complete courses
equivalent to UC Irvine’s BIO SCI 93, 94 with a C or better in each course, and
have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.”

That is probably the only problem that sticks out at me with your application. I sure hope you do get into the schools you applied to and I encourage you to remain optimistic and do very well in chemistry 21 this semester as well as your other courses.

P.S. I too have some courses missing as a bio major (both semesters of o-chem)

No, it’s actually the first semester of O-Chem.

oh I’m sorry haha then I believe you have an excellent shot
I would be surprised if you did not get in to everywhere you applied…even Berkeley

good job!
