CC Underrated Schools

Any school outside of the top 60.

UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara get very little attention outside the UC forums, and yet they're tied for 44th, ahead of more widely discussed schools like Penn State.

The most underrated: Olin, Cooper - they are not even CC listed! Poor guys.

UCF- I personally liked it better than UNC-CH

Notre Dame really doesn't really get talked about on here, but at my school, it is THE SCHOOL and I was kind of surprised to not see it as highly rated on here.

I also see very little talk about the University of Minnesota.

But I would say Vandy is also very highly underrated. Of all the schools I visited, it was by far the best and I was surprised it wasn't talked about as much on here.

Look at the USNWR ratings. Vanderbilt and ND are NOT underrated.

i think most state schools, in general, are underrated simply because they are "public" and have higher acceptance rates.

If Davidson is considered underrated, then Washington & Lee is definitely underrated - on CC that is. Both schools are excellent.

Midwest LACs are pretty much underrated. Has anyone checked out Wooster lately? Great place. Denison? Wittenberg?

In fact almost any LAC other than AWS is given little attention on CC with a few exceptions, of course -- but not many.

And maybe one of the most underrated schools right now is High Point in NC. Fantastic changes are taking place there that many don't realize.

Rollins in FL is another great school you don't hear much about.

I also agree that schools like Bucknell, Colgate, and Hamilton don't get the attention they deserve on CC.

I also agree about Indiana -- Great school that deserves more attention than it gets here.

I really think that Minnesota is highly under-ranked. It has a lot of top level programs.... I think it's about 10-15 spots lower than it should be. Florida State is another one that should be ranked at least 10-15 spots higher. It hasn't even cracked the top 100, yet it's acceptance rate is in the high 30's. Florida is also under-ranked a little bit. It should be about 5 spots higher than it is. Just look at some of the rejected stats.

I think UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Davis are highly over-ranked. I'm not saying these schools are bad, but they're ranked higher than some very well respected public universities, and I think they should be ranked more in the 60's-100. I mean, they're really better than UT or UF??? I don't think so...

As they should. UCs are extremely expensive for OOS students, with little in the way of good financial aid.

Macalester
Beloit
Knox
Grinnell
Lawrence

esp B K and L, they are amazing schools that get very little CC press (probably cuz they are in the scary Midwest :P )

Holy Cross, William & Mary.

Notre Dame has it's own site in the CC top universities section. Plenty of comments there. You just need to look a bit harder to find them.

We're talking about their prestige on CC, not their rank

Most schools on CC get "little press." If you think that ND and Vanderbilt don't get enough love around here, start a thread.

William & Mary, Rice, Tufts are definitely underrated. Real world respect, esp in their regions, is much much higher than in the CC bubble.

And what about the Claremont Colleges? Pomona maybe a little, but what about CMC, Pitzer, Scripps, Harvey Mudd?

Underrated is not the same as underranked. Notre Dame gets relatively little press on CC.

So if underrated isn't "underranked", what is the rating system people are using? Let's at least be honest here that most peoples' opinions of most schools is based on the US News ratings.

That said, I think most top publics are underrated -- especially ones like Berkeley which itself was ranked quite high until US News changed their formula significantly about 15 years ago.

I meant good schools that are not talked about much on CC, not schools that deserve a higher USNWR ranking.

Mudd gets a lot of love here, CMC a little less so. The others, not so much.

You're kidding, right? CC has literally hundreds of threads on Berkeley, many of which compare it to schools like Stanford and Harvard. Berkeley supporters are arguably THE most vehement posters here.
