um...I heard that 4.0 get rejected so aint' lookin too good...don't worry I applied to EECS and am in the same boat

Highly unlikely.

really? what do you think will affect him the most?
grades?
extra curric?
essay?

You need at least a 3.8 to be competitive. Plus, prereq performance needs to be near perfect. Read what I wrote in the other Haas thread. The EC's are ordinary, not extraordinary. The essay can't be judged by me, and I can't really determine what solid means in terms of admission. I didn't say that you (or your friend) won't get in. I said it's highly unlikely.

come on 71 views and only 3 posts...help me out guys!

Nope. Haas wants the most elite students... if your not the best, dont even bother... elite being 4.0 and str8 up CCC domination

I think he definitely has a chance. I've seen plenty of people get in with "worse" statistics. Last year, an international friend of mine got in with a 3.83. Haas looks for well-rounded students, not just those who look good on paper. Essays DO matter.

still a chance but b on econ and cal may hurt since they r major prereq. pro experience not amazing. great leadership extra cur. 3 w's ok.

decision: 75% chance

good luck!!

You are responding to your own thread? 75% chance my ass. Great leadership would be saving an African country from starvation, not student government/club/honor society participation and volunteering. That is actually fairly standard for Haas applicants. Do you want to see my stats? I was rejected, and I had a higher GPA, comparable EC's, and an essay chronicling a unique college experience. Plus, I had my essays reviewed by my Haas mentor, who was accepted. She was a single mother with two kids (plus she was taking care of her nephew at the time), solid essays (I read her essays), 4.0 GPA while averaging about 25 units a semester, and excellent work experience.

"Nope. Haas wants the most elite students... if your not the best, dont even bother... elite being 4.0 and str8 up CCC domination"

Haas does not only look at 4.0 students. Ask the numerous amounts of students each year from CC's who had less than a 4.0 (and the Haas website where the avg gpa is a 3.9). Essentially, if you have a 3.7+, you''ve made it through the door for a complete review instead of a toss out. There after, they look to see how well you have prepared yourself for the major. After attending a Haas Transfer Workshop hosted by the Haas School of Business at Berkeley, they illuminated the idea that your EC's don't have to pertain to Business at all. You just need to demonstrate it was meaningful in your career aspirations of business. They also cleared up that A's and a few b's are acceptable and will not result in a rejection.

To illuminate some ideas of the people who had gotten in, one of the speakers I met at the Haas Transfer Workshop was a CC transfer from Skyline College. His GPA was a 3.91 and was the president of the accounting club in his college. He mentioned some volunteering but i forget about what.

Another person who had gotten in maintained a 3.85 gpa and worked at Banana Republic. Also volunteered at a school doing tutoring and was VP of a several clubs.

The point: Of course there will always be people with 4.0 GPA's who "are single mother's with two kids, solid essays... averaging 25 units a semester and excellent work experience." The fact is that, there are also a large number of just students who just excell in many areas and demonstrate a good degree of readiness for business.

OMG THIS IS SOOOO SCARY! lol who are these 'elite students' getting into haas as transfers? 4.0's getting rejected? what is the world coming to! im gettnig scared bc business administration at berkeley is my goal.

are these 'elite students' community college students with good stats, essays, and ecs?

what is haas's exceptance rate???!

For Fall 2005, it was 8%.

woah buddy, i just realized a few things. big big trouble here. he filled out the SAR, didnt he? for de anza, they ONLY look at 1A...and micro is also a prereq. those are gonna hurt. polisci doesnt matter really and withdraws dont really matter either. the santa barbara thing is gonna hurt-but probably only as much as his bio science req. the rest goes into gpa. did he take any of his prereqs honors?(this is kinda important.)

i have some more bad news. he filled out a resume template, didnt he? i dont really think any of those positions are haas resume material. that's no offense to him, they could be great. but that depends on what he did with it in his essay.employment will be a bonus but not by much.

yeah and the business club at de anza is a complete and utter joke. im surprised people actually attend. it would help if he completed ALL his prereqs and finished a good deal of his breadth by fall. (im talkin' like, 7/9.)you really have no information what they're going to look at by grade trend etc. all you have to go by now is the SAR.

by the way, mschop, i went to that workshop. i remember that guy. he was absolutely really impressive-he was nothing short of dedicated. i dont remember what it was about him that really impressed me...im pretty sure that he was a paramedic. and that's insanely impressive.

the darker side of reality: that workshop was mainly geared toward berkeley students. as i've mentioned in the past...CC students have more to prove. one or two b's is okay, for sure. but i dont know where it goes beyond that..

I agree with zemook; some really good points there.

zenmook just outta curiosity, whats your major and where are you applying? will you be around campus next year?

if it helps, i'm the one that bearclaw was referring to. It seems pointless to try to explain when my grades when i can quickly just show you what i've done:

SBCC:

Winter (IP): Ewrt 2 - A, Ewrt 1b - A,

Those are my classes. At the time of the SAR, I have completed 8/9 Berke GE requirements and all prereq's except ewrt 1b, 1c, 2. I have scheduled to finish all my prereq's and breadth requirements (9/9) by spring.

For the SAR and mentioning math 1b. They might discount it but they had a slot for "Calculus II" so i added Math 1b in there.

As for the extrracurricular, I did explain it in my 600 word statement and bridge them with my career aspirations in business.

Debunking myths:

My reply is to update about my transfer status. I actually did make into Haas thus many of the myths such as "one needs a 4.0" or "have started their own company" is in fact not true. I hope this gives some inspiration and motivation to those currently applying to keep working hard towards Haas.
