First, I’d like to know if there are any poli sci majors out there who transferred to UCLA from a CC. What did you do when you were at CC and what GPA did you have when applying.
Second, I need you to tell me what are my chances please. Here’s what I have:
UC GPA: 4.0
Speak 3 languages
come from a family w/ political background
Honors student
EC: member of 2 cc honors society that does community service every week, ran marathons for cancer research in the pasts, used to do musical concerts, volunteered for children with cancer/charity organization.
awards: 2 president’s list
Personal statement: Basically I escaped war from Syria to achieve my educational and career goals in the U.S.
I would really appreciate responses!! Thank you.
You are a very strong candidate but, people with your stats are turned down. Be sure to apply elsewhere. Use TAG to lock up a seat at Davis or Irvine.
Good luck.
Do you know why they are turned down? What can I do to boost my chances? Thanks btw!
The school gets LOTS of well qualified applicants and simply doesn’t have room for therm all. Miss a required class - you are probably out. Applicants personal statements and ECs carry a lot of weight and are very subjective. Honestly, they may not like your essay and that’s it. Here’s the full list of what they consider.

You have also chosen a very competitive major. Check out the acceptance rate for Poly Sci vs History.

With a 4.0, decent ECs and a solid personal statement about your experience leaving Syria and settling in here, you will probably get into UCLA.
The G in TAG stands for Guarantee. If you meet the threshold, take the classes and follow the process exactly, you’ll have a seat at Davis (which is very close to the CA capitol and a great place to study Poly Sci) You have a few days left before the TAG deadline. I really recommend you file one at an alternate campus.
You have done a fantastic job with your academics so far… I can only imagine what your trials have been but I am certain it hasn’t been an easy road… I would hate to see you get shut out by UCLA for a silly reason and not have an alternate path at the ready. You are clearly too bright and too motivated to allow yourself to get side tracked. You are well on your way to a successful and happy life, whether you graduate from UCLA or UCD.
Good luck
Thank you for your advice and kind words friend
