CCC -> UC

Hi!

Is going to a California Community College first to take your General ED then transfer to a UC good for Computer Science?

Note: I am a developer (iOS) and I’ll still be working on plenty of programs, websites, and apps during that time.

Excellent thing to do

^ Agree, however, please not that CS at major UCs (i.e UCLA and UCB) is extremely competitive.

Use assist.org to plan your coursework, get the right ECs, and make sure to have someone look over your essays.

I third the idea. I’d recommend following the UC’s IGETC for GE.
If you can satisfy some GE requirements with AP courses and start at Calc I or Calc II, you should be able to transfer in 2 years with all your prerequisites and IGETC completed. It’ll be tough but doable if you plan.
Otherwise, it’ll probably take 3 years to complete prereqs + IGETC.
You could also finish all your prereqs in two years and fill in the gaps with some GE courses that would transfer to the UCs you’ll apply to. Then you’d finish your GEs at a UC.

Anyway, if anything, prioritize your prerequisites over your GE. Use assist.org, as luckie mentioned, to plan it.

@lindyk8 @kvothee @luckie1367 Ok, do I look good in terms of EC’s for CS? I’m only a junior in high school. You can see my EC’s in some of my chance me threads. Also here is my story summarized: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18182796#Comment_18182796

@ItsHydro‌
Wow, you are more than what they are looking for. You’re a 3.2 now, weighted substantially higher. I would apply. The worse that happens is they say no. Then plan on a CCC.

The fact that you know code, math and all the tough stuff is what they care about. Oh, and the entrepeneurial aspect. That’s HUGE.

@lindyk8 Thanks! I started up my own company last week. My mission is to: donate revenue I make to charities and teach less fortunate kids to code.
