Do I have to complete ALL of the major’s prerequisites in order to be accepted? If so, which CCSF courses are equivalent to the courses in EECS Lower Division Core and Ethics? I know which courses I would take for natural sciences and mathematics, as well as the transferable english classes. I am aware of obtaining 60 UC units, and I’ll likely be able to transfer in 3 years
I prioritize attending UC Berkeley, but is San Jose State a good option for computer science/computer engineering and how good is it compared to UCB’s EECS program?
ASSIST.org has all your answers for equivalent courses.
You won’t be considered if you don’t complete all the pre-reqs for EECS.
The above two answers are pretty basic, so I’d strongly recommend doing some research as it doesn’t seem you’ve done much. Google, Google, and then Google some more. Check out UCB’S EECS website, search around on this forum, etc.
Very few options are better than UCB’s EECS program, but San Jose State is a good school. I hear it’s recruited well and its proximity to Silicon Valley doesn’t hurt.
EECS at Berkeley requires all core major prep to be finished by Spring to be considered for admission. Other UCs may not officially require all completed but you will need all or missing very few to be competitive.
Full math series needs to be completed, first 2 courses in the physics sequence is required + 1 more science course. These are on top of the minimum transfer requirements of 60 units + 2 english courses and 4 GEs in 2/3 areas by the end of Spring. Not sure about Ethics, but IGETC is not recommended/accepted, however 2/4 social sciences/humanities courses can be satisfied prior to transfer that are required to graduate from Berkeley. The data structures courses CS 110C/111C (either Java or C++) partially satisfies one of the strongly recommended courses. Highly recommended since EECS is very popular/competitive. Average accepted GPA range last year (and similar years before) was 3.88 - 4.0.
Based on the data from SJSU’s website, last year’s transfers needed a GPA of 3.8+ if completed 3/5 prereqs or 2.7+ if completed 4/5 for Computer Engineering to be admitted. Not sure how it compares to Berkeley, but according to Wikipedia (lol) : “SJSU’s computer engineering program is ranked 1st in the nation among public university engineering programs offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees and 2nd nationally among all public and private colleges that do not offer doctoral degrees, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 college rankings”
For Computer Science, all 5/5 prereqs were required with an overall GPA of 3.7+ to be considered for admission. My friend (who took some computer science courses at CCSF) received a letter in the mail saying his application was withdrawn because he was missing one of the required prereqs. He had only finished 4/5 prereqs and had a 3.6 GPA too. Also from Wikipedia : “In 2015, Business Insider reported SJSU ranks 1st nationally among universities that are most likely to land you a job in Silicon Valley.” I also read that SJSU feeds directly into Apple, with more graduates from SJSU landing jobs there than MIT and Stanford grads.
Hope this helps.
