cell phone coverage?

My daughter's an Elon freshman and is having a terrible time with Sprint cell phone reception. I thought I remember somebody mentioning that a new cell phone tower is being installed at Elon. Does anybody know the details?

You can try - http:// coverage.sprint.com

But just so you know the kind of phone she is using and how up to date the software on the phone is makes a big difference in reception. If the phone/software doesn’t correct the issue (Sprint will often upgrade software or even phone at no cost if it’s a reception issue).

If I remember correctly, they said the new tower was going up towards the end of the year.

We have AT&T . Son is in Colonades. He has to go outside to call or text. Has not been a huge issue so far, just a nuisance that he has adapted to. Will be interesting to see if this new tower makes a difference.

Ditch the phone, set up a time on your laptops and use skype or oovoo. It’s great - can see kid and room and all. Bypasses all the Elon cell issues.

Skype is all well and good , and has it’s place. But some of the best talks I’ve had with my Son have been on a cell phone in those 5 minutes while he’s walking between things. Was true when he was overseas and true when he’s busy doing everything at Elon. Great times…

My D also lives in Colonades. She has Verizon. Works perfect everywhere. Inside dorm, inside classroom bldgs, bookstore, etc. Often calls me between classes–walking to and from like someone else mentioned b/c this is time when she isn’t disturbing roommate, etc. You might just wanna scrap waiting for the tower and change to Verizon. I did hear Sprint was the worst but thought AT&T and Verizon had some merger agreement. Good luck. I think in today’s world having good cell coverage is essential for college students for communicaiton and safety.
