I'm thinking of getting T-mobile (iphone) service for the upcoming fall term. How is T-mobile coverage? Do you have other suggestions for a carrier?

Thanks :)

T-mobile is fine in AA.

Verizon has worked great for me for 3 years. I don’t really hear much bad about it

My roommate has AT&T and most of North Campus is a dead spot for him

Verizon is terrible if you live in Markley, though that might be for all providers. That place is a universal dead zone.

I think service is bad in Markley with all carriers. It’s the building. There are other buildings on campus that are like that too.

Which is the best one on campus globally?

I am going to give an overview depending on what iPhone you’re going to be using…

If you’re going to be using a 3GS/4/4S: I’d say go with AT&T. Verizon and Sprint’s 3G service is painfully slow on campus.

If you’re going to be using an iphone 5 or any device that has LTE capability: AT&T and Verizon have pretty much full LTE coverage in AA and Sprint has supposedly started their rollout here. I would say choose between Verizon and AT&T in this case.

As for voice coverage, all the major carriers are pretty much equal. Cell service starts to suck once you get near the hospital.

If you’re not going to be using cellular data I guess you could go with which ever one you like.

I need an update on this topic! We are currently in Ann Arbor, and Sprint’s data coverage has been awful everywhere! Thinking about switching my D to another carrier. Which one would be better – Verizon or AT&T?
You should start a new thread. Anything from 3 years ago may not be relevant anymore. Verizon, Tmobile, and AT&T are all fine within AA. AT&T has better coverage than T-Mobile in the northern part of Michigan.
Michigan has excellent wifi in every building. Make sure your carrier and phone support wi-fi calling and you won’t have any issues. My experience on campus is that you barely use any cell data, except walking between buildings. The football stadium can be overloaded inside but works OK outside. Last year, Tmo was the only carrier that worked consistently in our section.
Tmo, V, ATT and their prepaid variants (metro PCS, Cricket, Consumer cellular, etc) all work well. We switched from Sprint to Tmo , service has been great (except in the UP and the LP north of Mt Pleasant and it includes free roaming in Canada and overseas. In Ann Arbor Tmo data speeds average 10-60 Mb/sec.
