Cell Phones

I am looking to get a new cell phone before going out to the Academy, but would like to know which works best. For anybody living in Colorado Springs (or preferably the Academy), which types work best? I know I had to talk in the stairwells with my old nextel; what are some more reliable ones?

I'm curious about the same thing. When I went to orientation with my verizon service cell phone, I had little to no coverage. (at least in the dorm area) Any suggestions guys?

Supposedly Cingular has the best coverage. I checked with T-Mobile and they said that my cell phone will have full coverage. Most carriers have coverage maps on their websites if you look.

Is it better to get a local Colorado Springs number or should I keep the one in my home area code? Or does it even matter at all? Thanks.

The phone/company that works best depends a lot on where your room is located. My suggestion would be to wait until the school year starts, talk to people who live in your squadron, and see what advice they have to offer.

As for whether or not to get a local number, people are pretty split on it. Usually it doesn't make a whole lot of difference, but sometimes a local number is more convenient for people who need to contact you from the squadron (as the phones at the charge of quarters desk don't tend to work for dialing long distance numbers).
