Hi, Im new here and i’ve been reading the board for awhile…

Anyway… I got my LOA and my family and I will be getting a new cell phone plan eventually, and Im wondering what cell phone service works the best at the Blue Zoo?

A cadet i was talking to is a second classer and an element leader. Shes underalot of stress and homework but shes doing fine (think you have to if you want to go there). Random note - the heating in her room wasnt working so it really sucked the past few days with the deep freeze we've been in.

Does anyone know if they have landlines to the cadet rooms? Otherwise a cell phone if i go there would be a worthy investment.

my cadre during the summer seminar had a verizon cell phone (he gave me his number, but I deleted it). I think they do not have land lines to the rooms, I did not see one in mine.

Yikes... then a cell phone would be a very worthy investment assuming they still allow them when/if i get there. Seems like something they would do away with a while ago.

(yikes, getting yelled at for posting too fast! Guess thats what happens when you are stressing too much about the academy and cant sleep...Hits on head with bat to pass out).

No phones (land line) in the rooms. During I-day they take your cell phone away but then return it to the cadets after BCT. Cingular seems to work the best.

You are allowed to have a cell phone right after BCT; this is a new rule beginning with the class of 07 (my class had to wait until we were three degrees before getting one).

The only land lines in rooms belong to select group and wing staff members, which doesn't mean anything to you your first couple years here.

The cell phone service varies not only by building but wher ein that building you are. A certain service may work fine in one place and not at all in another.

I really do not like cell phone service. I dont have a cell phone and i prefer land lines 100 times more than cell phones. Cell phones are convient, but compared to land lines nothing close. Wish they had them in the rooms.

Anyone know if we could use the interw3b service for VoIP? I know thats getting pretty picky and if i ever got there it would be the LEAST of my wories... but now just curious.

As far as I know, you cannot use the network for VOIP. I've thought about that, but according to the CSP, this is a "government owned network, and not for your own personal use or entertainment" so I doubt they'll ever allow it, as they're even trying to get rid of AIM. So it's pretty much cell phone or pay phone.
