I’ve done some searching and a lot of people have said that verizon is terrible at the academy… I’m just wondering, is it so bad that I should consider a switch to another provider?

I know this thread has been made many times lol, but no one ever seems to give a definitive answer because I’ve also read that verizon isn’t THAT bad up there. lol, I’m just a little mixed up here because idk if I should go through the trouble of getting a new provider.

Depends on where you are in the cadet area, really. Generally, anywhere beneath the t-zo level in either dorm is a no-go for any reception for Verizon. Everywhere else it is ok, not great but not absolutely terrible. I've heard good things about cingular.

My son had problems using a cadre's Verizon phone during BCT and doolie's day out. As a parent of a new cadet (class of 2010), it broke my heart to have our calls dropped! The day following the dropped call I went to Best Buy and signed up for a single line service contract with Cingulair which is now AT&T. The rest of our family still uses Verizon. Rather than shipping the new phone to him, I hand delivered the new phone when I saw him on Acceptance Day. I either took his Verizon phone home with me after Acceptance Day or Parent's Weekend. Our youngest son started using the old Verizon phone.

In the dorms, it is terrible. I need to find places in my room, in order to keep calls from being dropped. On the T-zo, I can usually get a strong signal.
