:censored: :censored: repeating courses...

Welcome to college.

It helps to have the mind set of college = full time job. If you haven't figured it out by now, most of your classes require a heavy input of independent learning/thinking and it's up to you to use the resources available to optimize your learning curve because no one else will be responsible except you.

If you're having trouble adjusting to the pace of the quarter system, talk to an academic counselor immediately to help figure out your options especially if you end up being on academic probation. One of the keys to doing well is by being a proactive individual.

Read here for details about repeats. You can repeat up to 16 units. UCLA only calculates the repeat grade into the gpa for the first 16 units. After the 16 repeat units, both the "failed" and repeat grade will be calculated into the gpa. All grades are annotated in your transcript. Nothing magically disappears and it stays there forever. For example if you earn a non-passing grade for a class and decide to repeat it, the type of grade, quarter, unit worth etc. of the class is annotated in detail in the transcript.

If you decide to apply to graduate/professional school, all your undergraduate grades will be forwarded to the school as part of your official transcript. Some secondary schools will only look at the first grade, some will only look at the repeat grade, some will average the two. It depends on the secondary school you apply to for the next step of your academic career.
