"Sometimes I'm not sure it's really hit me," the Hinsdale resident said. "It was such an incredible feeling when I found out."

Zumbach was named one of the 141 Presidential Scholars for 2009, one of the most prestigious awards given to a high school student. The school and U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert of Hinsdale honored Zumbach Tuesday night at a short ceremony.

"She is truly one of the best writers I have ever seen," Hinsdale Central teacher John Naisbitt said. "She is such a craftswoman."

In the fall, Zumbach will attend Princeton University. Although she doesn't have to choose a major yet, she said she's interested in international relations and economics, stemming from her involvement in the Citizen Club. . . . (continued)
