“Senior Brooks Yang stayed home from school May 2 because she wasn’t feeling well.

“But a quick scroll down an Internet Web page got her back on her feet. In the middle of the online list announcing 140 high school students who were named Presidential Scholars this year was Brooks’ name.

"I jumped up and gave my mom a big hug," she said. "My mom said she knew it, but I didn’t believe it."

“Brooks now has the permanent honor of being the first student from Rock Bridge High School to receive the prestigious award.
