I thought it was one fail= fail overall? We had a guy who smoked everything but he couldn't do pull-ups because he's 6 foot 9 and he was just as tall as the bar so he had to take the whole test over

Yes jsing, it is one fail = one fail overall.

is the cfa the same for all academies?
if it is, then i don't see how it could be pass/fail b/c i got an appt to Navy and couldn't do a pull-up or the arm hang thingy

The standards are relaxed for female candidates. jsing's approximted minimums are for male candidates. I think that there still is a pass/fail for female candidates though.

I think you will find however that in reality many of the females exceed the male minimums on both the ICT and APFT. During Beast barracks for the USMA class of 2009, the highest performing new cadet on the APFT was a female. Be prepared to be challenged by cadets of both sexes!

I did:
32 ft basketball throw
21 repititions of pull-ups
6.5 seconds shuttle run
110 repititions of modified sit ups
110 repititions of push ups
4 55 minutes/seconds on the mile run

can someone give me pointers or workouts to improve my basketall throw?

Here is a link that might be of help to you. Good luck to you!

Candidate Fitness Assessment - U.S. Naval Academy, Military Academy, Air Force Academy

This is an old thread and there are some confusing elements to it. To clarify, For USMA a candidate must pass all events to pass the CFA. There are minimum scores but they are not published. The CFA is scored and that score is used to calculate whole candidate score (WCS) points, where the max number of points will equal 10% of the WCS.

emm... when I took CFA at SLS for the first time, I did 5 pull ups and passed CFA. Maybe, that was the minimum?

m2daablny. Curious if you got a letter from USMA calling attention to your poor showing on the basketball throw. My son did very well in all other portions and they asked him to retake because of a weak bb throw. His nom committee new this, and that he had no plans to retake it, and still gave him a nom. USMA is his 3rd choice at best so no way is he going to retake it.

Atlanta Dad - just so you and your son understand USMA can't give him an appointment unless he passes the CFA.

m2daablny:
there is quite a bit of past discussion on the bb throw - you can do a search or - here is one discussion that may help:

m2daadblny,

those results are unreal.... how in the world can you do over 100 pushups and 21 pull-ups and not throw a b-ball more than 40ft???

lizinva,
Thank you for the link. It really help. I am going to follow through the b-ball excercise every day from now on. Yes, I know. My weakness is throwing. I've been having trouble throwing anything to a far distance. I can only do short precise throws. It's ashame. Well, at least the USMA are allowing me to take the entire CFA again and hopefully I do better.

It's a pity that the nom committee would waste a nomination on someone who is not physically qualified for USMA. AtlantaDad - I'm assuming the other academies found your son physically qualified?

Atlantadad: just curious, as this is a competitive area: did your son get noms to his other choices? Did someone give him noms to two SA's? The GA senators (as far as I've heard) only gave noms to one...and the congressmen had many more applicants than other years...only one nom per candidate (from Linder, anyway).

more than that - it's a pity they would waste a nomination on someone who has no intentions of becoming physically qualified.
Why did your son accept the nomination if he doesn't want to attend USMA?

And on the moms, a 15 yard penaly for piling on which will be added to the previous 15 yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. Darn, I think you scared him off. And I really wanted to watch him dig himself out of this hole which he has placed himself in.

USNA69: I'm not sure that the comments were "unnecessariy rough"....I think the questions and comments were fair given the circumstances....But you are right, I would also have liked to see a response.

Just trying to make a 'funny'.

He is hiding b/c he doesn't have the answer. Don't all of the acads have the same baseline though? If so, then they are SOL
