Chance a film student

As admissions gets closer, I am getting really nervous. My stats:

ACT: 29 (30/31/32/21 science)
GPA: 4.14W 3.89UW (took all available APs)
Rank: 7 of 316
Senior year: 4 APs
Activities: Mock trial (captain, varsity A), Speech (captain, two-time state competitor, 2nd alt to nationals, both in extemp speaking, varsity A), NHS (committee chair, treasurer); also attended Boys State
Recognition: AP Scholar
Work experience: Fast food, retail, etc. (nothing special, ~20 hrs/wk during school year)
Recommendations: Both speak very highly of me
Essays: Quite good

Colleges:

USC
NYU
Chapman - EA
LMU - maybe EA (deadline soon!!)
New Mexico State University
FSU
Hampshire
UT-Austin
CalArts
Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD)

I think I need to find some good safety schools. Please let me know what you think my chances at these schools are though! I am very concerned. And I would also appreciate recommendations for other schools. FYI, besides USC/NYU, Chapman is my #1 choice. I love everything I've heard and seen about the college!

Thanks!

Bump? ....

For Florida State's Film School...who knows? They accept some 25-30 undergrads per year. Your stats, if you applied early, are good enough for general acceptance to the university.

Thanks for the reply. I am definitely set on the film school and won't attend if I only get accepted into the general, non-film college (I have local colleges I could go to a lot cheaper).

Anyone have any ideas about my chances for the other schools? Thanks!

CalArts admission is based only on your potential as seen in your portfolio (films) and in your artist's statement. Academics really don't play much other than you need to be a high school graduate. It is all about your artistic merit.

NMSU - you are a shoe in. My son is attending CalArts, but NMSU was on his short list. They have a really nice film program and if you are tallented you will really stand out in their program - thus giving you the necessary exposure to excel. They are reasonably connected with industry because of all of the major motion pictures being filmed in southern NM. They are one of the few local resources for equipment and talent so the students get a LOT of work on real films.

You may want to consider RIT in New York. They have a very good film program as well and good scholarships. Film is the hardest school at RIT to get in to, but your stats should be good enough.

I would say that you are a reach for USC and NYU - but worth trying. Film at USC is one of the most competitive schools in the country. You need to have a dynamite portfolio and really some dedicated experience in film to show your passion. NYU is much the same. UT is hard for you because of their Texas resident quotas. Out of state folks have a high wall to climb at UT-Austin.

I dual enroll this year at FSU, but I know you definitely have the grades for FSU, I just don't know about the film school (although FSU film school actually filmed something in my house). You didn't mention any ECs about film school stuff, you might want to send something in?
