Chance a junior for Vandy, Davidson, Stanford and more! Will Chance back :)

Hi guys. I was waiting to make this thread until I got my ACT scores, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Here we go :D I'm a junior but I'm working hard and this is what its gonna turn out to be it looks like by the end of high school =]
I'm Jewish, live in California and go to a small Jewish private school.

Chance me for:
Stanford (Legacy, I know I probably won't get in but depending on how much legacy helps I might give it a go ;])
Vanderbilt ED (probably ED)
Davidson College (if i dont feel its realistic to get into Vandy ill apply here ED i think)
Wake Forest University
Rollins College
Wofford College
UCSB
UCSC
UCDavis
University of Miami
Tulane
Clairmont Mckenna
Pitzer
American University

I will probably apply to not all of these schools but we will see.

GPA: 3.7 Unweighted
4.1 Weighted
3.8/3.8, 3.8/3.9, 4.2/4.3, 4.5
2 APs sophmore year, 4 junior year, 4 senior year.

My school doesn't rank, but while my GPA isnt really that high for my school, only like 5 kids have more rigorous courseloads than me.

ACT: 33 (first try, probably wont try again cuz i suck at math and it would take a lot to get a 34)
English 35
Math 30
Reading 34
Science 31

Very happy about my ACT score, as I don't know how to do math at all XD

Extracurriculars:
Competitive Tennis: (4 Year Varsity singles, 2 years varsity captain, coach's award, ranked in southern california and play like 15+ hours a week). I have only played year-round serious tennis since the end of my sophmore year, so I am happy with my progress.

Bass Guitar (4 years)- Used to be pretty gnarly but tennis takes soo much time.
Harmonica (2 Years)
Raised over $160,000 dollars to build schools in Uganda. Started in 8th grade, made some videos and letters freshman and sophmore years, going to resume my work on this project this summer to hopefully raise another 50K (rich people are inspired by kids I guess :P)

Miscellaneous Community service: About 100 hours xD
JV basketball (10th grade)
Probably going to coach tennis this summer for pay or just volunteer to do it for free.

I think I can get a couple very good rec letters.
I write a mean essay so hopefully I will write pretty good ones ;)

Thank you so much, post your links and I gotchu =]

Stanford---- it is hit or miss. it’s a reach for everyone but i hope u make it in
Vanderbilt ED (probably ED) I think you will make it into Vanderbilt or wait listed at least
Davidson College (if i dont feel its realistic to get into Vandy ill apply here ED i think) again pretty good shot
Wake Forest University accepted
Rollins College—never heard of it
Wofford College again never heard of it
UCSB accepted
UCSC accepted
UCDavis accepted
University of Miami accepted
Tulane i think you have a pretty good shot
Clairmont Mckenna pretty good shot
Pitzer==never heard of it
American University accepted

looks like you have some great options. i really hope you make it in to all of them or at least a majority

chance me back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1133349-northwestern-university-chances.html</a></p>

Thank you very much
Chanced you back.

Bump.
Also, I’m also looking at university of richmond, boston college, and Connecticut college. Couldn’t edit post :(

Stanford is a reach, and I don’t know much about Claremont or Pitzer. You should get in everywhere else, and you are almost a lock Vandy ED, in fact you could probably get in RD, you’d at least be a match. Good luck and thanks for chancing me!

I would say your chances are pretty good at just about everywhere except for Stanford. Nobody is ever a lock for Stanford since admissions are such a crapshoot. You definitely have some options and I’m sure you’ll find the right place! Good luck!

Chance me back please:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1131275-chance-me-please-ill-chance-back-asap.html</a></p>

Thanks guys. You dont think my lack of ECs will hold me back?
I mean I raised money but that wasn’t like a ton of work just lucky that people are generous
And i play tennis a ton but I’m not top ranked or anything(my goal is to be top 150 in Southern California when I apply though).

I just feel like im not particularly outstanding. I have pretty good grades, a good ACT, and pretty good ECs, but idk if thats enough for stuff like Vandy and Davidson.

$160,000 is insane!!! I don’t know how you did it maybe you could give me some pointers.

Seriously though Stanfords a reach but if you make it don’t be surprised. Your EC’s are wonderful. The rest are safeties.

Lolz honestly my mom knows rich people and influential people with large mailing lists. I make video, it gets sent out to lots and lots of rich people, profit :D

Luck really, i just wish more people with connections like these would put themselves out there.

I doubt the rest are safeties tbh but thank you :P

hahahaha as long as you don’t write about raising that money like you did in the above post, that will look really outstanding. in fact, no matter how you did it, it is really outstanding. don’t put yourself down; making $160,000 to build schools in Uganda is something that most high schoolers, less 8th graders, would even consider possible. plus it sounds like you’ve done what interests you throughout high school, not just what ECs you thought you needed to get into an elite school. ironically, many of these schools are looking for people like you rather than those kids who have like 30,000 ECs none of which are really important to them.

Stanford (Legacy) - god only knows. i would apply if i was you.
Vanderbilt ED - high match
Davidson College - match
Wake Forest University - in
Rollins College - safety
Wofford College - safety
UCSB - match
UCSC - match
UCDavis - match
University of Miami - match
Tulane - match
Clairmont Mckenna - high match, maybe a little bit of a reach for RD.
Pitzer - high match
American University - you’ll get rejected because your stats are too high unless you go and visit campus like literally 10 times and have 45,000 interviews. all american cares about is how much attention you give them during the application process. it’s really strange. they have no problem accepting someone with a 2.9 GPA and 1850 SAT over you as long as they showed more interest than you.

good luck :)

Haha thank you so much
I probably won’t write a long essay about the project simply because that’s how i feel and im a bad bser ;P

Yea i don’t really do stuff that I’m not interested in, and i havent really started caring about college till this year anyways =P

Also, how are my chances at emory? I didn’t like it that much but maybe ill apply cuz Goizuetta is bomb and i might be a business major (although im entering undecided).

wake forest–safety.
davidson–I’d say you should be fine, but they’re strange. I was waitlisted davidson, accepted MIT.

Your GPA is a bit low for Stanford but since you have legacy, that might not be counted against you as much. You do have a decent shot at Vanderbilt, but again, the GPA issue might arise. The rest, I’m certain you’ll make. Good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1135199-chance.html</a></p>

I think standford might be a reach, but the rest are looking pretty good :)

Thanks guys!
Yea i know stanford’s a reach, i don’t expect to get in but i might apply for funziez and maybe the adcom will like me :)

Stanford- definitely. especially because of your Tennis history- Stanford is all about sports, you could probably get a sports scholarship even. my friend did for track and her GPA was a 3.5 UW and ACT was only 27.
Vanderbilt-yes
Wake-yes
UM-yes, although living 30 minutes away from UM as i do, it is not very pretty… in the heart(the nasty heart) of Miami. but a really good school- especially for Med

Your ACT’s are amazing, as well as your EC (tennis and the fundraiser thing- holy crap thats alot of money) good job!

haha i definately cannot play tennis at stanford. You have to be like top 30 in the nation at least to play tennis at stanford. Stanford has one of the best tennis teams in the nation and tennis is one of the most competative sports to play in college because of all the international recruiting that is done.

Thank you though.
I thought UMiami was pretty when I visited but idk :stuck_out_tongue: Hoping to get a little scholarship money from them =]

33 is good on the ACT you don’t need to retake it.

I’m really impressed by the $160k you’ve raised and the colleges will be too. If you really shmultz it up i’d say you have a pretty good chance anywhere especially if the school is linked with humanitarian efforts (most are in some way).

Think you should probably narrow your list down from 15 to 10.

You’re in at all the UC’s most likely clairmont mckenna too. I really don’t know the other schools. Stanford…you have a chance but remember that it is still just a chance! It’s hard to get into any school like Stanford just keep that in mind.
