Chance a naive student?

Hey everybody, could you guys chance me for the following schools:
UPenn- Wharton
MIT
New York University
Cornell
Columbia

I’m a first generation American living in Pennsylvania and both my parents are from Russia. My scores are as follows:
SAT: 2320 total
Math: 800
Reading: 750
Writing: 770
Subject Tests:
Math 2: 800
Physics: 800

Unweighted GPA: 3.97
Class Rank: 2/389

Extracurriculars:
Soccer(9-10 jv, 11-12 varsity)
Track
NHS(President)
FBLA(President)
Key Club(10-12)
Debate Team(10-12)
I also am a soccer referee

I know my EC’s aren’t great but my essays are pretty good, especially for MIT and Penn and my recommendations are decent. What do you guys think?

Forgot to mention I have taken 11 AP courses and have gotten 5’s on most exams.

They are all fine schools and the data you’ve provided appears sound (of course, so too will 75+ percent of your competitors’ qualifications). With very little to go on – for example, you indicated your essays are “pretty good,” but students are generally poor at assessing essays’ compelling qualities from admissions’ viewpoint – I’d speculate:

  • MIT, reach to high reach (it is for almost everyone)
  • Wharton, reach to low reach
  • NYU, match to high match
  • Columbia, reach to low reach
  • Cornell (dependent on what school you apply to), high match to low reach

Thanks for the insight, I got decent feedback on my essays but obviously no one can really judge them like an admissions officer. Would living instate help my odds of getting into UPenn.

No, Penn is a private school.

Your chances are pretty low for these schools except NYU-Stern. Do you have any awards?

Not too much; Penn is, of course, a private institution, so there is no “political mandate” as there might be at Penn State or UConn. However, every year a seemingly disproportionate number of Phladephia area applicants appear to be admitted.

However a disproportionate amount of Philly area kids apply.
