BTW: I posted in 2013 forum to ask for the opinions of 2013 accepted/rejected students of NYU
Hello, I'm currently in the middle of my Junior year in a top high school in New York.
I am very interested in NYU's Stern.
Even though it's still half a year till college admissions, I am still very nervous and fretty O_O.
I want to know my possible chances in getting into NYU Stern ED

My current GPA (only Sophmore and Freshman)
92 weighted (only weighted scores in my school and no 4.0 scale)
No class rank given at my school
I am Asian
I can speak Chinese fluently

I've taken the hardest courses possible for each class since freshman year (All honors and APs)
APs (including current Junior year courses):
AP World History (B)
AP European History (A)
AP Lang and Comp (A)
AP Physics B (B+)
AP US History (A)

I am planning (and most likely) to take
AP Calculus BC,
AP Microeconomics,
AP Macroeconomics,
AP Literature
AP US Government and Politics
AP Physics C courses
in my Senior Year

SAT IIs:
Chem - 700
Bio - 670 (yikes!)

PSAT:
203

At the end of my Junior year, going at my current pace, my average should be at least a 94 weighted:
Freshman - many Bs some As
^91 Weighted
Sophomore - many B+s and As
^93 Weighted
Junior - as of right now, going all As and B+s (better than Sophomore year)

ECs:
WUSTL Pre-college (many business credit classes)
Vice President Music Honors Society Club
NYSSMA (music tests)
Student Government
Track
Volunteer at Nursing Home and Rehab

I have a huge passion for music, and I plan to write about my passions for music and business on my application essay.

You are deff not a shoe in, but I think you have a pretty good chance at getting in. If you apply ED, you will have a better chance of getting in.

Thx for the reply,
I personally realllly want to get into Stern.
I heard from my friend who is currently in Stern that it is very competitive and is like high school all over again (especially the competition to get into the good businesses that come recruit).

I'm thinking of going to France/China to study business/intern with my uncle who currently is an airplane seller at some company in France who also works in China as well.

You're on the right start man, you'll be a really competitive applicant. If you can get a 203 on your PSAT, you can at least hit a 2200 which is solid for Stern. You go to one of the specialized HS's? Cause a 92 there is pretty damn good lol

Good luck! Hopefully I'll be seeing you next year

NervousJunior, you must be from Stuyvesant. Sorry man, my school beat your school in the US News Report and Newsweek rankings. Relax. I got in, so can you.

Just to tell you guys, my high school is not in New York City.

Its not one of those Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech, Townsend Harris, Stuyvesant, etc.

Although many of you city kids probably never heard of it (and I will not reveal the name of the school on these forums), it is still very very competitive and in New York (cough cough long island).

EDIT:

how do i know about those city schools?
I used to live in the city until 7th grade.

but anyway, I think it's awesome that your grades are consistently rising even with the APs piling on and that you have actually already taken SAT IIs... I personally didn't take anything til senior year (with the exception of a blow-off chinese SAT II.) just keep on track, and I'm pretty sure you'll get into NYU.

Haha, I'm just a really panicky guy when it comes to colleges.

Since I'm Asian, I've been fed with parental prodding since I was 6 to go to Harvard or Oxford by my overly demanding parents.
They were absolutely strict and I had memorized the multiplication table up to 12 when I was in first grade doing single digit addition.

Unfortunately, my parent's dream and mine came to end after my screwed up freshman year.

Nowadays, I'm so panicky about which college I'm going to go to because my parents have given me such high expectations since I was young and I don't want to let them down.

@frenchie12: Yeah I realized my mistake but I already editted my post 30 seconds after I posted it and I couldn't edit it again (That spelling error must've made me look really dumb)

btw stop trying to guess my high school...
it's starting to make me feel more nervous pulls collar

when you said, "relax, I got in, so can you"
I thought u were worse than me...

:(

NYUMINUTE's STATS (lol sorry for posting this publicly, but they are nothing to be ashamed of right?)
gpa 3.9
sat cr 790 math 800 wr 800
sat subject test chem 790 us history 790 world history 800
PSAT commended performance
AP courses 10, currently taking 7 in senior year
AP scholar with distinction
extra curr: student council vp, 120 volunteer hours, math club prez, yrbook staff
very strong recom letter from my principal and calculus teacher
Personal statements critiqued by my parents and english teacher - the best I've written so far. Good luck!

shy Don't be hating me :)
My stats is average compared to my graduating class. 5 of us got 2390 in SAT, 15 National Merit semi-finalist (I'm not), and minimum of 14 AP courses. What I can say to you is, admission to college is more than just numbers. Our candidate for valedictorian has 22 AP's, national merit semi-finalist, but was deferred admission at Princeton. I honestly do believe that I got accepted because of my essay and short answers than my stats.

I guess the main difference between you and me is I was never pressured by my parents to be an overachiever. Find your true fit because you don't want your college life be miserable.
