Ok well i have a GPA of 3.1 unweighted. I go to a public school that is in the top 5 percentile for public schools in the nation. My school does not have + or - so an A=4, B=3, C=2 and so on.My low GPA is because of three Cs i recieved. 2 in Sophomore and 1 in Junior year. I know the Cs will greatly hurt my chances but i love this school and would like an outside opinion. I got a 1950 on my SAT and a 30 on my ACT. I am black with a chronic illness. I do not know if this will help my chances im just including everything.

So i was wondering if i could get into Villanova with these credentials, I can easiyl understand if i have no real shot. Thanks for answers.

you should be pretty good. I’m attending Villanova next year and the last couple weeks all i’ve been hearing about was the amount of mediocre students getting in with me for the Class of 2013. It seems Villanova has been going to more and more mediocre students because of the economy (not to say that you are mediocre at all). I think you’ll be fine, and if you don’t get in and get put on the waitlist, I wouldn’t worry either that much. Most likely Villanova will go heavily to their wait list cuz there’s a lot of kids who just can’t afford it and will choose a cheaper school…

dankaz, if the economy is going to have any type of impact on the intellect of the student body, it will simply render the incoming class more competitive. While there may be students who reject their offers from Villanova, there will be others who turn down admission from Ivy League schools and attend Villanova becuase they received financial aid.

^^^ Uhh, Villanova is not known for their financial aid.
So, at 50K/year ppl’s families will think long and hard before plunking down that kind of $$$. It’s a good school, but not a top tier, and in this economy, people may shy away, therefore leading to a somewhat lower quality student than in the past. You may have get more of a ‘mediocre’ (although still a very high quality student!!) if their parents are able to pay full freight.

Villanova’s A&S has been significantly weaker than the other schools (Business, Engineering, Nursing), so I wouldn’t exactly be worried about it. It’s far less competitive, which would explain why other “mediocre” (?) people are getting in for the past two years.

first off, villanova was ranked no. 11 with their Business Program and their Engineering was ranked no. 1 on the east coast, so saying that their A&S are weak is incorrect. also, i was accepted for the class of 2013. I had a 31 on my ACT, 3.8 GPA with two AP’s, tons of extracurricular activities and sports involvement and got in EA. A friend of mine who had the same credentials as mine, but a lower GPA got rejected. Also, my counselor told me that Villanova was NOT using their wait-list this year and would not be drawing students off of it, because they were filled to capacity. they had the biggest application pool in the school’s history and took that bulk of their students EA, so that they could get top students. To say that they accept mediocre students because that’s all they cold get is incorrect and also, they are considered a top tier university. look on peterson’s.com - - level of entry - VERY DIFFICULT. hope this helps.

"“Villanova University, where tuition, room, and board, as at Penn, are nearing $50,000 annually, saw a 13 percent decline, the largest of about 35 schools surveyed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey”

And by top-tier, I meant schools like Ivies, Notre dame, Duke, etc–most difficult to get into. Villanova is an excellent, well regarded school ,but not ‘top-tier’.
