Can someone here who was accepted to Notre Dame or Northwestern via transfer, give me an idea of what they look for? What were your GPAs, SATs, and freshman GPA? And would someone mind chancing me for Notre Dame/Northwestern transfer? I haven't begun freshman year yet.

My High School GPA is eh: ~3.5

SAT 770 math 610 CR

SAT 2 Math 770

Also, I never applied through regular decision...

(Considering I have a very strong freshman GPA)..

Any chances, please? :)

3.5 out of 4.0 scale. Not 5.0 scale…

Maybe you should start college before you worry about transferring lol.

I don’t need wise-ass comments. Just a straight answer lol. Considering these were my top 2…

Bumpppppp

Excuse me, I’m not being a wise-ass. I’m simply trying to impart wisdom onto you. Many people do not get into their top two choices, and are justifiably upset about this. However, they still end up really happy at their 3rd choice or wherever they end up. You’re implicitly assuming that you will hate the school you’re attending next year without even giving it a day’s chance.

I don’t think you can be chanced until you actually START college. Obviously you weren’t good enough the first time and because nothing has changed since then I will say that your answer is still a NO.

Why don’t you try enjoying the university you actually go into?

“Also, I never applied through regular decision…”

ONCE AGAIN: I do NOT need people telling me of what I SHOULD be doing. I know what I SHOULD be doing. I already got into good schools like michigan-ann arbor, university of florida. BUT I ended up not applying to notre dame for personal reasons.

NOW: Can you PLEASE not tell me what I SHOULD be doing. Because I KNOW what I SHOULD be doing.

This is a CHANCE post. Nothing else but a CHANCE post. So lets keep to the topic.

Lets say HYPOTHETICALLY speaking I did very well freshman year at the college I’m attending (for instance anywhere above 3.8)…With ALL my credentials and crud listed above…WHAT would be my chances of getting into notre dame via transfer.

AND PLEASE: NO MORE NON-RELATED POSTS TO THIS TOPIC

I’m not being obnoxious, I just want a chance, ok? Is that SO MUCH to ask?

In addition- I am not saying I will hate the school I’m attending next year. I’m just saying that I will enjoy notre dame more because of reasons I would rather not display here…

And nyyankees2012, I apologize for the wise-ass comment thing. No hard feelings?

Am sorry but I have to agree w/ rainbowrose and nyyankees2012 you can’t expect people to chance you when you have no college stats. Even if you get a 3.8gpa for the first year thats only one part of the requirement. What about your EC’s, work experience? What is your major? Have you visited this section of the board?

Working on a genetic engineering type project now…

3 years highs chool wrestling
3 years track

Acted as a mentor for 9th and 10th grade research students…

Tutored

Part time job

Volunteer work at hospital/clinic

And a bunch of other stuff I dont feel like listing

I just need one hypothetical chance pleasee…

A more in depth one… lol…

Okay that’s better :)

“Won 4th place in state science and engineering fair”
that should help if you continue doing research

“Acted as a mentor for 9th and 10th grade research students”
if you continue doing something like this at a local high school (if possible… idk what college you’re attending) that would be nice as well

SAT is a bit low but if you maintain a high GPA I think you definitely have a nice chance.

i don’t think you have a shot sorry. Your stats are similar to mine. Then again, it depends on the application pool. The spread on this years pool were against you/I. If the trends continue to follow like this years, don’t count on it.

It depends on a lot of factors, most of which involve what you do when you get to where you are. Chances are pointless anyway, you never know what they will or won’t see in your essay; all we can really do is evaluate what you tell us based on what someone whose cousin’s friend’s landlord’s garbage man once heard from an admissions committee member. My GPA is lower than dlbecker’s, but I got in for Winter of this year. It’s a crapshoot. Part of “give your current school a shot” is that if you go in with a negative attitude, you’ll probably not get as much out of it; if you don’t get much out of it, your transfer app will look weak.

I don’t want to be mean, because I was also planning on leaving before I got to my first school, and I transferred for the “wrong” reasons (suffice it to say: half personal, half academic). Just be yourself, involve yourself in things you actually enjoy, and bust your ass in freshman composition (well, in everything, but especially composition and maybe math).

By any chance, does anyone know where I can get the average SAT scores for transfers in Notre Dame or Northwestern?

Thanks a bunch

And sirsteveh:

Thankyou for your in depth reply! If you don’t mind sharing some of your credentials, I really just want to see where I’m at (even though it might be a crapshoot). SATs, college + high school gpas if you can?

And I’m not transfering to Notre Dame or Northwestern for bad reasons. Notre Dame has always been a dream school. And Northwestern has the type of research I’m interested in.

Average SAT score for ND Transfers last year was 1284 – it’s posted with other transfer statistics on their website.

If you’re really serious about transferring to Notre Dame, do yourself a favor and look at Irish68178’s posts – he has an actual website about the entire transfer process at ND. Paid very close attention to all his information and actually, son was just admitted to ND yesterday as a sophomore for this fall.

As above posters have said though, go into your freshman year with your heart open – it could just turn out that’s the place you’ll want to stay :)
