if you can suggest more in CA for film, preferably schools with less than 10,000 students, that'd be great

Intended major: Film of some sort, don't know exactly what yet.
PSAT: 205 (80 W, 70 R, 55 M). Not National Merit.
SAT: 2300 (800 r, 800 w, 700 m) Essay: 12 (best scores from two tests)
ACT: 34 (36 E, 30 M, 36 R, 33 S) Essay: 12 (first time)

IB Diploma candidate.
UW: Currently 3.25, but if I can pull myself up (to say the least) 2nd semester I can have between a 3.6-3.85 UW. Slight upward trend.
Weighted: Don't know, but significantly higher than my UW.

Freshman (no honors)
Japanese 100: B+/B-
PE: A-/A
Chem: B-/B
LA: A-/B-
Math: B-/B
SS: C+/A
Note: Definetly not the hottest start. I had family issues going on, to say the least. but I pulled over a 3.00 each semester. I know I had just above a 3.00 each semester (3.05/3.10).

Sophomore
Beginning Marketing: A/A
Math: A-/B-
Pre IB English: B+/A
Japanese 200: A/B-
Pre IB Chem: D/B
Pre IB History: A-/B+
Note: I went from no honors classes to almost the full spectrum. Chemistry was really hard, but I buckled down 2nd sem, but sadly some of my other classes faltered. My GPA did rise each time though.

Junior
IB Philosophy SL: A
Japanese 300: A
IB Bio SL: B-
Advanced Marketing: A
IB English SL: A-
Math 300 (normal course): D, dropped 2nd semester
IB History of Americas SL: A-
Note: It's going to come off as whiney, but my math teacher was awful. Lost several of my assignments, didn't help me learn the material during help sessions, inconsistent teaching. I even got a tutor for a period of time, but couldn't afford it after a while. Obviously 2nd semester I'll be striving for As.
I just completed Pre Calc I at CC online, and received an A. Shows what you can do with a good teacher.

Summer courses: Pre calc 2 at CC, Japanese 400, Human Bio, Health
I already tested into Math/Japanese, and plan to take those there. I'll obviously be striving for As.

Senior
IB English HL
IB Calc SL
IB Japanese 400
TOK
IB Bio HL
IB History of the Americas HL
IB Film SL

ECs/leadership (only major ones)

Library tutor-four years: I have spent countless hours tutoring kids, seeing HUGE differences in their grades and the such. I don't have a particular title, but my supervisor says I'm a "senior volunteer".

BBBS-two years: Above was catalyst for this, pretty much same thing except dedicated to one child. I think I'm making a difference in his life, I've done alot with him that he wouldn't have done otherwise (very similar to my upbringing, except lower income).

YMCA-three years: Essentially same dealie with BBBS. I started off as a daycare teacher for 4-5 year old, but eventually became a youth/teen mentor. I started a poetry program here, teaching kids how to write poetry, and learn to appreciate great works/poetry. I'll be expanding upon this in the summer, with a full writing program aimed at kids.

DECA-two years: It was associated with my marketing class. I received third at my area competition, 2nd at state, and will be making a bid for a spot at nationals.

Kendo-six years: 2nd degree black belt.

Writing (since 6th grade): Tons of works, lots of them published, mostly poetry and short stories (some essays/scripts). I have won some scholarships for some of these.

you have really beast scores and average grades, u r ecs lack passion but ur only a junior i guess.

Pomona and USC are low reaches…gl

Huh, I thought my grades were at least a little above average. The average GPA of my class is a 2.9ish. And then I have outliers, not consistent Bs. But ok, as we both established, make or break is next semester.

As for you saying my ECs lack passion, maybe you’re just saying that in lieu of me calling your ECs a laundry list. I volunteer with kids at three of those because I know what it’s like to have parents who can’t really help you in any aspect. DECA is associated with my class, which I have continued to do. Kendo is my competitive sport. And finally I don’t see how you can dismiss my writing, albeit not seeing it, as impassionate.

You seem like an interesting candidate. Trust me, I know what it’s like to be ok/really good at certain subjects, but suck at others. You got up that chem grade so that’s good.

As for math, you got an A in pre calc, but a D in presumably a normal math class? I would say THAT rides on your senior year, and how well you do in IB calc.

I think your ECs are really good, maybe not amazingly unique (although I would argue kendo is) but I can tell where you are coming from.

And being Hispanic and first generation will help you alot.

Granted you could fail your junior 2nd semester, but if you do well and end up with a 3.6-3.7.

USC: SAC: Depends on your portfiolio I think. But I know that USC, among these, makes a huge deal out of being a minority.

Pomona: mid reach (they like really passionate people, and I can tell you encompass that virtue). Same deal about minorities as USC.

CMC: mid reach (they like leaders, and I can tell you’ve taken initiative).

Pitzer: Probably mid reach.

Chapman: Match, if you do well from now you could get money.

LMU: In, full IB with a 3.2. You could probably get money if you play your cards right

pepperdine: match

UW Seattle: You could get rejected I think, they pay alot of attention to grades (state schools that is).

Oxy: IDK.

I’d say maybe look at SCU and USF. Both are in San Fran which is near a few movie studios, albeit not Hollywood.

Chapman-Dodge - solid in
Occidental - in
USC: SAC - b/c of minority status, id say in
LMU - in
Pepperdine - in
Pitzer - kinda reach
Pomona - probably in
CMC - in
UW Seattle - reach

Erm, as selfish/arrogant as this might seem, do you think I could get money (assuming I got in) from any of these (UW aside).

Re Chapman…I got in with a 3.5 and 1770 to Dodge this year…you should be an easy in…except for film prod. That’s ridiculously hard to do

I’m assuming that will be based alot on a film portfolio?
