I have two Ds on my transcript. Have your attention?

I've already applied everywhere just FYI.

Male
Hispanic
Washington
Public highschool, well known for IB program, bad budget.
Parents income: $80,000? No assets to speak of really.
Financial aid: YES.

Chapman University-Dodge
Occidental College
Pomona College
Claremont McKenna College
Pitzer College
Santa Clara University: CAS
University of San Francisco: CAS
Loyola Marymount University: SOC
Pepperdine College: Seaver
American University: SOC
UW Seattle: CAS (already got in here).

Intended major: Depends on school, but film if I can (production/animation), creative writing 2nd choice.

SAT: 2220 (800 r, 800 w, 620 m) Essay: 12
ACT: 34 (36 E, 30 M, 36 R, 33 S) Essay: 12

IB Diploma candidate. I can talk FOREVER about my extended essay!
UW: 3.7something
Weighted: Dunno, but I would assume it’d be higher than my UW.

Freshman (no honors)
Japanese 100: B+/B-
PE: A-/A
Chemistry: B-/B
English: A-/B-
Math: B-/B
SS: C+/A
For some reason I got the "Japanese award" for freshman.
Note: Definetly not the hottest start. I had family issues going on, to say the least. but I pulled over a 3.00 each semester. I know I had just above a 3.00 each semester (3.05/3.10).

Sophomore
Beginning Marketing: A/A
Normal Math: A-/B-
Pre IB English: B+/A
Japanese 200: A/B-
Pre IB Chemistry: D/B
Pre IB History: A-/B+
Note: I went from no honors classes to almost the full spectrum. Chemistry was really hard, but I buckled down 2nd sem, but sadly some of my other classes faltered.

Junior
IB Philosophy SL: A/A
Japanese 300: A/A
IB Bio SL: B-/A
Advanced Marketing: A/A
IB English SL: A-/A
Math 300 (normal course): D, dropped 2nd semester
IB History of Americas SL: A-/A
Note: It's going to come off as whiney, but my math teacher was awful. Lost several of my assignments, didn't help me learn the material during help sessions, inconsistent teaching. I even got a tutor for a period of time, but couldn't afford it after a while.

Summer courses: Pre calc 1 at CC(A), Japanese 300 (A), Human Bio (A), discrete math (A), Health(A)

Senior
IB English HL: A
IB Calc SL: B
Japanese 400: A
TOK: A
IB Bio HL: A
IB History of the Americas HL: A
IB Film SL: A
Note: Ok, as you can see I went from having a D in normal math, to B in the 2nd hardest math at my school. I had a good teacher, and I put in the same level of work. It was a definate turn around.

ECs/leadership (took out the negligent ones, here are my major ones).

Library tutor-four years: I have spent countless hours tutoring kids, several who I can identify with (limited parental role, few opportunities).

BBBS-two years: Above was catalyst for this, pretty much same thing except dedicated to one child. I play sports with him, write poetry with him, and help him in school when he needs it.

YMCA-two years: Essentially same dealie with BBBS.

DECA-two years: It was associated with my marketing class. 2nd year I got 3rd at area, 2nd at state, and 3rd at nationals.

Kendo-six years: 2nd degree black belt.

Writing (since 6th grade): Tons of works, lots of them published, mostly poetry and short stories (some essays/scripts). I have won some scholarships for some of these. I began a poetry program at the library I tutor at, and also have integrated it into my YMCA and with my little brother. I'm trying to get it so it will continue even without me, at least at the library.

Recs: One from my Soph/Junior English teacher, who is also my EE advisor. Also one from my YMCA supervisor.

You’re definetly guarenteed in everywhere, except no guarentee at Pomona or CMC. You have a D in a normal math class, that does stand out…but they aren’t all over the place. And I’m assuming you informed the schools you are now in a very hard math class. Given your test scores, ECs, and overall personality, I’d say you have a good shot at Pomona. But maybe not CMC, they are huge on leadership and the dean likes jockish people.
