Chance a worried senior. I'll chance back!

I was in idiot in high school. I’ll come right out and say it.

My high school advisors and “slacker” friends at the time convinced me to take easy classes and my ADHD kept getting me distracted throughout arguably my most important year (junior :frowning: ) it also doesn’t help that I just recently had a complete turn-around as far as what it is that I want to do. A close friend of mine convinced me to take AP. U.S. History and AP English Language my junior year instead of an AP Science, believing that we were gonna go into law or journalism, but I’m enrolled in AP Environmental Science this year and realizing that I absolutely love science; way more than english or history, even if I was good at them. Except now, I’m just realizing this my senior year, and afraid it may be a realization that has come too late.

Scheduling issues at my school didn’t help either, as I often wasn’t able to always get the classes that I wanted or signed up for. I have to take an online course in physics because I never got the chance to take a course in physics in high school.

I’m just feeling so defeated right now. I understand that my education is largely my own responsibility, but at the same time I can’t help feeling like I’ve been led astray by poor advice from others and poor decisions on my part :frowning: I was an idiot in high school.

But now that you’ve heard my sob story, here’s what little I have going for me;

UC Unweighted GPA: 3.60 :frowning:
UC Weighted GPA: 3.86
SAT I: 2100 (First try, retaking)

Taking SAT II’s (U.S. History, Bio and Math 2)
and ACT very soon

AP Tests; AP English Language (5)
AP U.S. History (5)

AP’s enrolled in this year: AP Macro, AP Environmental Science (WHY DIDN"T I TAKE YOU SOONER!!!) AP Literature, AP Statistics

I had initially signed up for AP Calc AB and AP Bio this year, didn’t get either :(

Work Experience:
Maxim Health Care Respite/Companion
Paid Internship at prep2prep.com

200+ hours of community service

My essays as according to my AP English teacher were the best she’d read in years. Continuing work on those.

I’m hoping to go into some sort of Environmental Science, possibly combining it with Education or public policy so that I can really make a difference and help people in my lifetime, but I’m really concerned about my chances of getting in.

I was an idiot in high school.

But thanks in advance for your time and consideration :)

You could get in as long as you write a really good pair of essays on your application. It is important to let them know why you have not kept up your grades or why kept you from taking harder classes. Usually you can write an extra third essay to explain all of this but if you can some how work it into your first two, that would be easiest for you. Good luck. I’m sure you can make it in.

as far as your gpa and test scores go, they are really good! Much higher than me (i am an incoming freshman at davis). I would suggest working on your two personal statements and you should be just fine! good luck!
