Well I don’t think you can combine great first semester grades with ED. If you apply ED, they wouldn’t have your 1st semester grades, unless you get deferred.

Well I will put in my two cents here. 3.2 UW GPA is not low, its just not high enough for schools like Michigan and VT. Being an URM will help you more than you think it will. In my case It provided me with the miracle of getting accepted into the University of Michigan with a 3.27 U-M GPA. I got a 1600 on the SAT as well. I did send in my mid year grades and maybe those helped. Who knows. I’m an African-American from New Jersey. I applied to Rutgers and got accepted no problem. I applied to schools like University of Maryland College Park and TCNJ, and mostly state schools because I plan to attend medical school. As soon as I got into Michigan, I put my deposit and now I’m heading there apart of the class of 2013. Heres my advice. Stellar Essays, find teachers that know you very well so they can write good recommendations. As with me I had convos after convos with my teachers and guidance counselors. They pretty much knew a lot about my life. The last piece of advice is to think positive. Colleges say they don’t have a minimum GPA and SAT requirement for a reason. There are people that will probably get as lucky as I did. But you will never know unless you apply. I got into all those schools that you named except VT and Ohio State, which I didn’t apply to. Also Michigan looks at the rigor of your classes and U-M GPA. I’d say 80% of their admissions decision is based on that. Only problem with what I’m seeing in your chance thread is that you aren’t in any AP classes. That could pose a problem. I was in several. Always was in advanced and honors classes.

1600 CR + Math or 3 sections?

All 3 sections. Another thing to take into consideration. There was a huge supreme court case that dealt with the University of Michigan a number of years ago. Michigan won that case and was allowed to use race as an admission factor. Race is used as an admission factor because diversity is important to the University of Michigan. Don’t doubt yourself. By the way what school are you from in Jersey?

Hanover Park in East Hanover (Morris County).

Where’d you go to school?

Rutgers-70%
UMD- OOS, 65%
Ohio State - OOS, 65%
Virginia Tech- OOS, 50/50
Penn State- OOS, 40%
Univ of Michigan- OOS, 45%-50%

You need to take a look at UMass Amherst for Industrial Engineering, you should have about a 60-65% chance here.

SUNY-Buffalo maybe a good bet- OOS could put you at 55%, but it is part of the Association of American Universities so it is a good degree.

Chance Me Back!

bump …

Does anyone have any suggestions (based on what you know about me) of schools (preferably in the East) I should check out?

Like I said, I want to major in industrial engineering. Or, marketing.
