Wondering what my chances are at UW-Seattle and UW-Transfer, transferring from WSU. In state resident.

Credits at time of application: 64 semester/96 quarter.
Credits upon matriculation if accepted: 82 semester/123 quarter.
College GPA: 3.96
Major: Psychology (w/ pre-med)
Awards: scholarship, research grant, honor roll, outstanding freshman scholar, nominated for a psych department award
Leadership: German club co-founder and Vice president.
Research: One year part time (with one summer full time) behavioral neuroscience lab
Volunteer: About 200 hours or so (hospital, other charities), mentioned in my PS

High School stuff (if it even matters with me having 40+ credits, but I did mention some of it in my PS):
GPA: 4.0
Valedictorian
Varsity Football Captain
Varsity Tennis Most Improved Player
Student Store Manager
DECA State Finalist
Study Abroad in Germany

To clarify, if I don’t count research participation and AP credits, I’m down to 68 semester/102 quarter credits upon matriculation if accepted. Not sure if that matters.

I’m pretty sure when transferring to UW they only take up to 60 semester credits/90 quarter credits, which is equivalent to an AA. So I think you might lose a lot a credits from transferring which they really don’t like to do. But besides that your stats are amazing, why did you go to WSU in the first place with a 4.0?

Yea I realize I will lose some credits, but I am just not happy here. I think life is just too short to put up with something that I don’t want to do, especially with something like college.

I went to WSU only because they gave me a full ride (tuition, room, board, fees, books, the works). Lesson learned.

UW-Bothell is still very new and not very well recognized yet, in my opinion. We are in the same boat btw, I’m also a sophomore at WSU that applied to UW lol. I’m majoring in Business Administration though.

Perplexity - did you apply for summer or autumn quarter?

And thanks for the advice guys. I just hope I have a decent chance. UW-Bothell is definitely a backup to UW-Seattle just to get out of this place. If I don’t get into Seattle I will just go to Bothell and try to transfer again to Seattle for winter quarter.

I would apply as soon as you can (Feb 15 is the next deadline I believe, so hurry). With your stats, you have a really good chance of getting in. I wouldn’t worry, especially with 90+ credits and the high college GPA. Just make sure to write a good essay that talks about your background and achievements in college (i.e. the ones listed above). Good luck!

Also, I wouldn’t bother applying to UW-Bothell. They don’t have psychology, so you would be much better off just applying to UW-Seattle (which is where you should go).

@bgbinc - Location is what makes me hate the place, but for different reasons than you think. Yes Pullman is boring, but I’ve met cool people and all. I do have a sense of community. This may be getting a little personal, but I lost my mother when I was younger. I received the news when I was at WSU watching a football game (although she was somewhere else). It may sound weird, but I’ve never been able to shake that off and I wouldn’t be surprised if I am suffering some sort of low grade depression because of being in the place where I first heard the news. I thought about transferring after last year (my freshman year), but I decided to try one more year. Needless to say, it hasn’t worked out. I talked about this quite a bit in my personal statement.

@collegebio - Thanks for your input! I already put in the Seattle application last week. Bothell does have a BA in community psychology even though that’s not my main plan for a major. But I’d rather take classes there for a quarter and try for Seattle for winter quarter than stay at WSU. At least at this point that’s what it is looking like. Plus… I already applied to Bothell too haha.

Considering you’ve put up with it so far, it would make sense to tough it out for another year, then get a job that you really do enjoy (or UW med school). You would have wasted a year of your life if you can only transfer 90 anyways. At least if you stuck with another year, you would have a degree to show for it.

@ richan90 - Yes I’ve thought about this option quite a bit and go back and forth all the time about it. One thing is that they will actually transfer more than 90 credits, but only 90 credits of lower division classes (correct me if I’m wrong here). I have quite a few upper division that might be able to transfer over that 90 credit limit, although obviously I’ll just have to wait and see.
