Hello,

I'm currently a student going to community college in Portland, OR and am planning to transfer to University of Washington Seattle this upcoming fall as a pre-business major

My Stats:

High School GPA -3.714 (along with working part time)
Clubs such as Key club, Health careers program, Model UN
volunteer at nursing home

College GPA - 3.77 (4.0 the last three terms) (while working full-time)
(49 credits at application deadline, will have 79 by end of spring term)
Thinking of taking 11 credits summer term and getting my Associate degree

Internship with a local trucking company, Work full time at a grocery store
Now work part time at the family freight brokering company

Personal Statement - In the process of editing, lot of my friends found it very strong and I will be editing it over the next few weeks

Personal Note:
First generation College Student
Been working since freshman year of high school
Mother passed away freshman year

Questions

1) will attending summer term and getting my associate help my chances?

2) Admission chances without associates you would think?

3) Although I have yet to complete my application, I did not see any specific area where I am supposed to state extra-curricular's. Is that just supposed to be included in the personal statement?

4) Do transfers have an early admission deadline? Didn't see one.

Thank you so much everyone. Ill be looking forward to everyone's responses!

Also! Are we supposed to send in high school and college transcripts right after we apply? or do they ask for them later on?

1.(and 2) Yes! Getting your AA will help your chances a great deal. With your GPA and your 79 credits without the AA, you are in a decent position. But that’s about where I was (though I was coming from an international university and not a Washington state CC) stat-wise and credit-wise, and I was rejected for Winter 2014. They really like to see that you’ve completed 90+ credits before you enroll. Hence, I am enrolling in a Washington state CC for the next 3 quarters, including Summer, to complete my AA-DTA degree.

Yes, you include your extracurriculars in the personal statement, or if they don’t fit there, there is another box labelled ‘additional information’: you could list them there as well.

There is no early admission for transfers.

Hope this helps!

And you do send your transcripts at the time you send in your application.

Thank you so much for your in depth response! So did you apply winter term with around 79 credits?
And okay thank you I think I will go ahead and work towards my AA degree and boost my chances!

I’m actually thinking about transferring to a Washington State community college as Clark College is only 30 minutes commute for me.

Yes, although there is no guarantee of admissions into the departments of closed majors/school, by what is stated in your first post, you probably have a good chance of getting into your major. Just be sure to write a solid essay and that you have taken all core requirements prior to transferring (check with the department of the major you intend you plan to enroll in). Many people with not that high of GPA as stated in your post but have a solid essay and met all the core requirements for transferring got into Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering from a community college.

Current engineering student at UW that transferred from a community college.

I applied with 69 finished credits, and I would have had 79 before entering. Do think about going to a Washington state CC: it might be more expensive but it will help.

Good luck!

That is very true. I will work quite a bit on my essay and have it reviewed by some professors I know and so forth. Thank you got the advice

@Candela2
I actually just submitted the forms to transfer and signed up for 2 classes at clark college and since I live on the border of oregon and washington, there is no extra tuition costs! Thank you so much and good luck to you as well :D

So my winter term just ended and I got a 4.0 for 16 credits! So my gpa now should be 3.83. Is it a good idea to send UW another transcript with these grades or does it not matter? And I would also appreciate some others to chance me! Thanks!

Nice job! I’d say sending another transcript is a good idea…I’m expecting good grades when I get them back at the end of this quarter, and I’m definitely doing this. Even if it doesn’t increase our chances, I don’t see how it could be a bad idea.

Thats true! exactly what I was thinking
