In thsi intitiatives we had some support from one of the polytechnics in singapore and one of the biggest chain of spectacles shops in singapore.
-I have witnessed the riots when I was in Indonesia and became a refugee.
- fluent in three languages

Well, that's a glimpse about me and I am really sorry for my grammar. I'm not a good story teller/writer either;I'm sure you can see that hahahaha I just hope it's not gonna cause a problem in making my essay.

and YES, i'll apply with FA

Which school are you applying to? There are many schools in Cornell…it really depends on which school.

First of all, I think your extra curricular activities are amazing. It really makes you stand out. Really impressing. You must be a really good speaker. The fact that you are an Indonesian will be a plus. (Not a typical Asian student you know. Not Chinese or Korean.)

But I was just wondering…are there only 30 people in your school? (Because you wrote 1st out of 30 people)…no right? If that is so, I’m guessing that your school is not well known or at least not prestigious. I believe colleges do look at this. Did you take any AP Courses? But I think your amazing extra curricular activities will counterfeit this. :)

Your SAT scores seem to be average. But Cornell does not rely its decisions heavily on the SATs (says on the Cornell website), so I’m not too worried.

But…as an International student, it is EXTREMELY hard to go to an ivy league school with FA. Just keep that in mind… Your scores might be good enough, but the fact that you’re applying for FA might drag you down.

Overall, I think you have a decent shot. Good luck.

Can you chance me too? I’ll really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes… U are right ! it’s exactly what I’m thinking about.
My main problem is actually about the FA…

Hm… My school’s not famous at all but extremely competitive…
30 people but all are foreigners and they are like top students in their home country.
We even have a medical school student in our class… Can u imagine how hard it is ??? T_T
Singaporean Junior College students have 2 years to finish their A levels; we just have ONE

But, in the end I can’t show that to the Adcoms unless my teacher mention it in my recs… world’s to cruel…T_T

btw,Could you define “a decent shot” ???

hahahahah thanks and hope to see u in cornell…

If you were in my position, would you apply cornell ??

Hi PatPat,
I have worked with the Tibetan refugees in India so I can understand how hard it must be for you. Its commendable how you have managed to take up some very interesting projects despite it. It shows a lot of passion and conviction.
I think you have a very good shot. But the only problem is the FA. Cornell is very stingy when it comes to international F.A. Even though it’s “need blind”, it has a reputation for rejecting students on the basis of FA. I’d recommend that you focus on colleges that are generous when it comes to aid like Amherst, Rutgers, HYP, etc

Best of luck !

-Tan

HI! I meant you have a very good shot at it. I’m jealous. Good luck!

Hi tan ! thanks for your chance!
Yes, the FA will be my biggest challenge…
I’ve put all the list of the school (including amherst) in my other thread…
mind checking that out ??

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1248301-chance-international-ivys-top-lacs.html

@Topcgirl : thanks but I’m feeling even more sceptical now… hahahaha

Why are you skeptical? You are a really good candidate. It’s just the FA that’s getting in your way. As the person above has said, I suggest you to apply to colleges that are generous in FAs. Colleges become so stingy for international FAs.

@toppc: It’s my nature… hahahaha I tend to overthink everything…
But yes yes u are right… FYI,of all the admitted International only 1 in 5 students are with FA in cornell…

I think I’ll just take sometime to reflect before deciding whther to apply or not…

bumps… char10

We don’t get financial aid anymore
http://www.finaid.cornell.edu/apply-aid/international-applicants

The first note…

we = ?
I see only the international transfer applicants who wont get it. I’m not transferring…
and the fa’s exhausted for 2011-2012 applicants, I am 2012-2013 applicant
