Chance? Any spare chance, Ma'am?

Hi guys :) I'm an international student from South-East Asia who intends to apply to UCs, specifically targeting Cal and UCLA. I hope that some kind soul would kindly evaluate my chances on getting into those schools.
Below are some of my academic details & ECs

SAT 2 Chem 780 M2 800 Physics 800

Won numerous awards in the Euclid Math Competition, University of New South Wales Assessment(Science & Writing Modules)

Gave tuition in Chemistry to my high school juniors (only during school holidays)

Additional comment: I am reading Cambridge A-Levels now and am confident to graduate with 4A*s in Math FurtherMath Chemistry and Physics

Berkeley: Reach (high match if you can pay full-freight)
UCLA: High match

Just to add, I’m applying for ChemE…which I think is a highly competitive eng. course in Cal :(

UCB/UCLA: High Match/Low Reach
Do you require financial aid??? Paying full-freight will increase your chances.

Hmmm… It was my impression that Cal is harder to get in than UCLA, since it is the second best engineering school in the nation after MIT… Financial-wise, I will be covered by a scholarship from my own country.

UCLA will be changing to a more “holistic” review of applications starting next year, which UCB has being doing for several years, so I believe that they would be similar in your chances. I am only taking a guess because this has not been tested. I do agree the ChemE program is better and extremely competitive for Cal. I am sure all CC posters agree, we can only chance based on our knowledge. We are not the admissions committee and although I do like to give posters ideas of their chances for schools, I also think it is a waste of time. Just make sure you have some Safeties and Matches, so you are not shutout completely. Good Luck to you and I think you would have better chances at UCSD/UCI/UCD and UCSB.

True … Some of my seniors have said that getting in colleges like LA and Cal is like winning the lottery

Exactly.

If your best three final A-level grades are A*s, perhaps you can try your hand at Waterloo as a safety…

Hmm I think I’ll consider that.
