Chance at Boston University CGS

-Applied Early Decision

-Applying undecided to college of general studies

-SAT: 1550-1600, including math, writing, and critical reading. I know its low but I am a bad test taker. I am a much better student.

-GPA: 3.4/4.0 I go to a private school. There is no grade inflation. My transcript shows an upward trend. Junior year I got a 3.6 first semester and 3.8 second. So I show improvement.

APs: European History, Psychology, Art, and Statistics

-EC: two jobs, one internship, captain of a sport, Teachers assistant, VP of two clubs, Class representative for all four years of HS, and some others, don’t remember.

-My common app essay is really good. Probably above the average essays being submitted to Boston.

-Recommendation are good/average

-Even though I am considered white, I am also really diverse. I wrote about it in my supplement essay. My family comes from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. I was also born in the Middle East. So I hope that helps.

I cant say what it is, but I also did something that will really made my application stand out.

S do I even have a chance??? I am nervous. Boston is my dream school!

sarah123123,

I would advise you to take a look at the class of 2017’s profile at this URL:

[Profile of Admitted Students » Undergraduate Admissions | Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/profile/)

You are nearly 400-500 points below the average SAT score and your overall GPA is a little weak. While your ECs are on par, I do not believe that they will completely makeup for other aspects of your application.

You said you have already applied ED. This would be the only situation where I can see admissions overlooking your SATs and give you a little leeway on your application. By telling BU, “I love this school so much that I would come here over anywhere,” is a fairly large commitment.

Overall, I would keep Boston University as a reach school.

I also applied to the easiest school to get into, College of General Studies. So maybe that could also make admissions overlook my SAT scores.

ED CGS is a little easier to get in ONLY If you said you do not want any aid. BU likes to fill CGS spots with full paying students and they do not like to use all their aid money during the ED process in case some stellar students apply reg decisions and they want to be competitive on the AID front

What school is college of general studies? I dont see that in the major section.

It is a college not a major. [Schools & Colleges » Academics | Boston University](Schools & Colleges » Academics | Boston University) 6th down
