To my knowledge the only schools on your list that offer undergraduate degrees in film production (as opposed to film studies) are USC and NYU. Those programs are highly competitive and while you will be expected to be academically competitive (and your stats are) being admitted into film production will be highly dependent on your portfolio submission. Your background implies a track more along the lines of film studies.

Regardless, Columbia and Stanford will be reaches because of ridiculously high academic statistics and equally ridiculously low admit rates. USC and NYU will be reaches because they are the cream of undergraduate film production programs and you will likely find yourself competing against many award winning film applicants. UCLA may be your best chance. They have an undergraduate film studies program, your academic stats are consistent with their averages, though as an OOS applicant I think it’s very unlikely that you’ll be offered much aid beyond loans.

Obviously USC and NYU are renown for their film programs, as well as UCLA, so this makes admissions into these three schools extremely difficult. However, with your credentials, you should hopefully be able to secure a spot somewhere provided your portfolio matches your excellent dedication at schoolwork.

Of course, Columbia and Stanford are always going to be difficult, but a 3.8 and a 33 is probably right around the typical student, especially at Columbia. I’m not sure how well Columbia and Stanford are known for film studies (I would suppose it does not even compare to the likes of the aforementioned schools), so I would think that this may help your chances as film would be a less popular and desirable program.

I would say Stanford would be a reach, while Columbia and UCLA are low reaches and NYU and USC are high matches. It seems as if you are passionate about your major, which helps loads in the admissions process as you can describe this in your essays, extracurriculars, etc. I wish you the best of luck!
