Okay so I'm going into Senior year in high school and I'm practically freaking out about applying to colleges and whatnot. New Paltz is one of my top choices

I plan to major in Chemistry with a concentration in Pre-Med.

I have a 4.0 GPA but my SAT scores aren't ideal (I got a 1710). But, I took the ACTs and I got a 26

After my senior year I'll have finished 7 APs, is it good to take a lot of AP courses?

I was just wondering if any of you have an insight on whether or not I might get in?

Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? I had similar stats, slightly lower and I got in a few years ago. I doubt admissions is much more selective now than it was then. I’m not sure if it’s a guaranteed “in” but I’d say you have a very good chance.

As for APs, it’s good to show that you had a challenging course load. Although it may not look so great if you aren’t doing well across the board, etc. If you do well on the APs, you may be able to waive some lower level courses. It may not be the best option for all majors (an engineering major may want to take Calc over again for instance even if they get a 4) but it’s a great way to fill lower level requirements/GEs.

If you have any questions about the school feel free to ask.

As far as I know, the unweighted GPA will be more important. I’d say you have a decent shot. Are you from an area with many students applying to NP?

Let me know if you have any questions. The user Lilymoon also had a son that attended NP, I’m sure she would be willing to answer any questions you may have.

My friend got in with a 3.0-3.1 weighted and 1810 SAT
No hooks like URM or anything either

Btw I would really consider stony brook if I were you it’s a low reach/ maybe high match
It’s specializes A LOT in science & all that stuff
It’s a top school as well

Sorry for the late response. My GPA was an 88 altogether, with a strong upward trend. Junior year I had a 91 average and beginning of senior year I had a 95 average.
