FRESHMAN YEAR
I went through anxiety, stress and a hint of depression so my grades kinda sucked.
-1st semester:2.83
-2nd semester:3.0
-60 hrs of service
No honors

SOPHOMORE YEAR
Conditions greatly improved! No more issues :D
-1st semester:3.71
-2nd semester (predicted):4.0
-JV tennis
-Band
-helped found a club
-Science Olympiad
-No service hours (I know, bad :(()
No honors

I'm only a sophomore and this is my predicted junior yr schedule:
-AP bio
-h history
-h english (trying to get ap)
-latin
-religion course (I go to private school)
-pre calc (trying to get honors)

I aspire to be a biomedical engineer. So far my possible ACT range is 25-27(will gey that higher) and on the kaplan practice sat I got a 1400 (I know bad will get the higher too). From now on each semester I plan to get a unweighted 4.0 each semester
Also do you have any other college suggestions?
Thanks!

CSUs don’t require to list any extra-curriculars or personal essays so your hours and depression won’t matter to any CSUs.

On a further note, since you plan to go into the engineering field and I would assume you are going into an engineering major, you should take honors science classes in high school to boost your chances of admittance. You should also consider taking honors physics.

And take math all 4 years as well. Take trigonometry and calculus to improve your chances of being admitted. Although Calculus isn’t necessary but I would highly recommend it over statistics.

Overall you have a great chance. Just score high on your ACTs and SATs and you’ll definitely get in. And I recommend taking the ACT and SAT twice, because if you score high enough on a certain subject you will be exempt from the placement test called ELM and EPT. You can research more about the exemptions of the placement test if you want to.

Thanks so much! Yeah my school doesn’t have a trig class (I think they combined it with intro to calc) and senior year I’m definitely taking ap physics. Do you have any advice for the act and the sat? Or any other college suggestions? I didn’t list any future EC or volunteer things I plan to do but I was wondering if you think I have a remote chance at princeton or stanford? I know they don’t look at freshman year so I feel like I have a slim chance. I’m also a minority, if that changes anything…

Pre-calculus is basically trig, so no worries.

Schools like Princeton and Stanford reject perfect kids with 4.0 GPAs with 2400 test scores. So your chances are slim. But some kids with high test scores with 3.3 and 3.5 GPAs got in with excellent ECs with an amazing essay. So you don’t have to be the brightest, but you have to display that you are really serious about your field of study that you want to go into.

Would demonstrating how I have already started conducting research help?
By the way I’m also female, part of CSF, And part of CJCL. In the future I many be volunteering/interning with a marine biology organization.

Also thanks again! I really appreciate the advice!!! What would you think of my attempting to attend university of waterloo or university of toronto?

I don’t know much about those universities so I can’t help you with that. I think those programs would be good, but they aren’t necessary for sdsu since they don’t need EC’s. but for top schools i would advise you to do something that showcases your skills instead. For example, building a solar powered boat that wins numerous competitions.
