i got about 8000 or so but some im not really sure what it means. Do those points mean that you will have a high chance to get in or if your above the 7500 mark it as an automatic admittance

Things I don't understand:
Participation in pre-collegiate/motivational and enrichment programs: AVID, EAOP, commercial and school test preparation courses, etc.

2 years: 150 pts

^Will my volunteering at a tutoring center (i helped children with korean to english, and math) be part of this?

and what is a first generation college attendance?
Will I be categorized in taht since my sister is only 1 year older then me? My mother/father has not graduated from high school.

and I am also confused on: Educational Environment- Identified schools which fall into the 4th or 5th quintiles (300 points for applicants from 4th and 5th quintile schools); PHHS is not eligible
^ how can i find this out?

I didn't add these points in so I'm hoping if I understand what these mean I will have a higher number. Thank you and sorry for asking so much.

I think your helping in tutoring center counts as volunteer work. It's a different category.

If your parents didn't attend college, you will be first generation to attend college. It doesn't matter whether your sister attends college or not. You will still be first generation.

The schools which fall into the 4th or 5th quintiles are those schools that are at the bottom, low performing schools.

If you score 8000 or above, I would say you have a very good chance of getting into UCSD.

recalculate ur score. are you sure you are around 8000? I think u can get 500 max non academic points. Which means if u volunteer and have a black belt, thast 450 already. from a rough estimate I see 3600+ (1800+650+750).8+ the rest. Gl on ur apps =). btw if ur ELC it kinda almost means ur guaranteed for UCSD. I dunno how that works. But pretty mcuh everyone elc gets in

I am not aware that there's a max on the non academic points. Since he is first generation attending college and low income, that another 600 points. Depending on how many A-G courses taken, add 250 - 500 points?

will anyone be generous enough to check over my score becuase I feel like I'm getting more then i should..

3.6 x 1000 = 3600
(1800 + 650 + 750).8 = 2560
40 A-G classes = 500
Parental income <60,000 = 150
Parent High School Education = 300
President/Co-founder of UN club, and VP of Christian Club = 150
200+ Hours of CS = 300
3 years of Kung Fu = 150
Single Parent Household = 250
= 7960?

Did I add too much or no? With this score can anyone give me a rough estimate of my chance to get in to UCSD?

Participation in pre-collegiate/motivational and enrichment programs: AVID, EAOP, commercial and school test preparation courses, etc. can anyone explain what this means? Does it mean I was involved,(a student) or helped the students in it. Is this only for school or can it be outside of school as I did tutor kids.

The only thing I would be wary about is the 150 you gave yourself for kung fu. I don't think they award that to you unless you got a black belt? You didn't mention if you did or not so that's why I brought it up. If you have a black belt that's probably fine.

wait..the rubric says you add verbal and math only for your SAT I score...right? so it shouldn't be 1800? do you omit writing score or include? i hope you do cuz my verbal sucks compared to my writing..

^yea, but there are both adv/disadv for using a point system compared to the holistic approach. in berk's admissions, they put your app in a random group, so if you have a bunch of people that aren't as good as u ull get in but if ur in a group with a lot of smart ppl u won't know. berk/ucla isn't fair because of this, and that's why their admissions are so freakin random, and people u don't think will get in end up getting in.

oh hey thanks infamy for your info. but i have mixed emotions. while i think the point system is good because of its "simplicity" i think it's too much of a rigid process/system of admissions. At the same time, it feels that a holistic approach is more reasonable, but then again, what you mentioned makes sense.
