Hey, I'm aware that engineering schools definitely have different standards than LSA freshman, and I'm wondering which one I really should be applying to.
I have a 2220 SAT UC, and a 2250 Combined, and the math on the UC was 800.
My Math 2 was a 750, and my gpa is currently a 3.9 Weighted.
I also have 10 AP classes, 4 of which are Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and Calculus AB.
Which is where the problem is.
My math grade for Calc AB for junior year was a C+. My teacher was one of those guys that liked to heavily mock his students, and the pressure he put on us while we took tests made me hate the class.
I also got a B- in AP Chem.
But I got a B+ in HNS Biology, and an A- in Chemistry HNS.
I have even done research in a neuroscience lab involving proteins and dendritic morphology, and because of my experiences there, know how to use a confocal microscope and do immunohistochemistry.
I also currently have an A- and B+/A- in APES and AP Biology.
So which one should I really be applying for?

I have also heard that if you're a girl, it can effect admission into engineering schools--exactly how much does it add?

The university doesn’t look at weighted GPA.

Which college you should apply for depends on what you want to go into. If you plan on doing engineering, apply to engineering.

Just so you know, while admission might be a bit harder to get in engineering, it isn’t by much. LSA is also very tough to get into.

I feel like I could do engineering…I mean I hoped to do biomedical engineering because I like bio a lot.
My gpa unweighted is probably around a 3.6? maybe its in between than and a 3.7, but its at least a 3.6.

Well they care about you course rigor and how well you perform… so basically your unweighted GPA.

I would apply to the school that you want to enter. It is difficult to tell whether LSA or COE will give you a better chance. COE looks more closely at math and science marks. They do have an interest in admitting women to COE but there are limits on how overt they can be about it.

In either event, I think you are a reach for U-M and I would not be surprised if they defer your EA application.

…hmmm…i guess I’ll have to ask my counselor then afterwards about it…my short response sounds okay but I really don’t know how my math grades will effect it TT

well thank you everyone, for replying!

oh and my unweighted gpa is a 3.7, not a 3.6…
but what if I’m more into the sciences?
senior year:
AP Stat/AP Govt/AP Lit/AP Biology/AP Enviro/Human anatomy/orchestra
and for calc ab i got a 4 on the ap exam
4 was for ap chem too.
and CR plus math is a 1510.
and i’m out of state, i live in VA.
i hope you all can reply once more to this…im just really stressed about which one i should be applying to…
