-Recs/Essays

Recommendations: From the three best teachers I know (my three AP teachers junior year). Also, I'm expecting a good one from my counselor.

CommonApp Essay: About my marching band experience and how it shaped me from an immature kid to a responsible young adult

Harvard Supplement: About the effects of my parents separating a week before my freshman year and how I overcame my cynicism and depression the second half of my sophomore year.

Penn Supplement: This explains how I will utilize the PPE major it offers and the extraordinary abundance of opportunities Philadelphia offers.

-Additional Information

I have an extreme upward trend from a freshman/sophomore GPA ~3.3 to a junior GPA of 3.95. I'm anticipating a 4.0 senior year.

I'm sending in an Arts Supplement to show my percussion and composition skills.

The academics (including gpa, class rank, and SAT) do not put you in line for good chances at anything but NYU, Lehigh, Lafayette, or Penn State.

I kinda figured that. Will Penn even consider the fact that I’ve gotten all A’s junior and senior year, which clearly shows I’ve changed? And isn’t a 2200 superscore good enough for Penn?

Agree with above, also only in line for NYU in New York. NYU AD is so competitive, they admitted some 2-3% of students last year. In comparison Harvard had a 7% acceptance.

Bump with some sort of positive feedback before I cry?

Bump

And please read my full post, not just the academics.

You have a good shot esp since you’re instate and show an upward trend. Please chance me for Penn ED.

I think you should just apply and hope for the best!

You’ll have a good shot at RNU

Bump please respond

Bump, please someone answer.

I tend to agree with the above. The ivies are unrealistic (with the exception of Cornell ED) given your current stats, and NYU is unrealistic financially - they give practically 0 aid.

Is my GPA the only thing bringing me down?

Yes, somewhat. Your ECs and SAT are average at best for Ivies. With a 3.5 you need something amazing to set you apart.

Okay, my ECs are not average. My SAT scores may be average, but my ECs are NOT average. Being the number one marching band in the Northeast and one of the best percussionists in the area is not average…

Most of the people who get in have equally amazing ECs. For Ivies it’s hard to stand out. If your marching band has something to do with your future major, that will help a lot - but a 3.5 needs a lot of good ECs. You’re pretty good there, but it’s very competitive.

Ah, alright. That’s a bit more clear  Sorry for freaking out. Would the fact that I will have a 4.0 my first semester of senior year affect my chances?

Yes, that’s very good. Note that ED1 schools won’t see those when making a decision.

It’s Penn you’re applying to, not the local CC. “Average” is state level achievement in your primary activities, while “above average” is nationally placing in a major competition. You need to win ISEF to have truly amazing ECs for these places.

hey bro, I copied your format. I needed to make a chance thread quick and this was the first thing I saw. Hope you dont mind :)

You have a good shot

your EC’s are average, if you think youre competitive musically for ivies you better be top 10 at all state or have performed at carnegie hall etc
