UPenn Wharton
NYU Stern
Berkeley
UMich
UCLA
USC
Emory
Tulane
Vanderbilt
Georgetown

C’mon guys give me some help?

For UMich, your GPA is too low. Your SAT is right below 75% for LSA. Ross pre-admit is very competitive and would be a reach for you even if you have a 4.0 GPA. For LSA, it would be a low reach.

So far your application seems impressive. You might want to improve your SAT I scores depending on how many you already took.

I applied to Berkely, UCLA, NYU Stern, and UPenn Wharton, got rejected by Wharton and accepted to the rest. Here’s basically what my application said.

Score:
SAT I: 2230, high score being 2280
SAT II: Literature (690), Math 2 (800)
TOEFL: 115
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.85(9), 3.925(10), 3,715(11), 3,83(12)
IB Subjects: Business & Management (HL), Psychology (HL), English A1 (HL), Biology (SL), Mathematics (SL), Spanish (SL)
Predicted IB Grade: 44 out of 45

Awards:
Academic Excellence with High Honours (9, 10)
1st in English (9)
1st in Business (11)
1st in Psychology (10, 11)
1st in Music (10)

-Medical missions
-Feeding programs

International Student
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Asian
Languages: Korean, English, Spanish, Chinese

As you can see, you have more work experiences than I do but I guess the community services balanced it out. My UPenn application was sloppy, the interview was horrible. I applied for Early Decision with Financial Aid. After I got rejected, I stopped expecting and applied to universities that others applied to. Thankfully I made it to NYU and Berkeley, and now it’s a happy problem. My grades aren’t perfect but the extracurricular activities and community services was probably how I got accepted with just 2230 for SAT I.

Just remember that every year it gets more competitive. Your extracurricular activities are fine, just continue to do what you do and improve your GPA + SATs (Don’t forget to take TOEFL!)
I think Stern will be no problem for you. Just give Wharton a shot.

Good luck!

Thanks you so much for your insight, it really helps!

OP here are my thoughs

Your grades are low for these schools. SATs are average to good for these schools. ECs are good (average for these schools).

AS to credentials, I went to Georgetown with a JD/MBA from Northwestern. I have lectured at Nothwestern in their MBa program I also have a son at Wharton so I am aware of the process to get in to US busniess programs

If you are interested in business don’t apply to UCLA or Vanderbilt. They really do not have programs for business. Their comparable programs are really in economics Otherwise, here are you chances

Penn/Wharton - high reach nothing stands out and your grades are a low for Wharton

NYU/Stern - match you stand a good chance of admittance. Being an international makes it a little harder, but your credentials put you squarely in the middle at NYU

Berkeley/Haas - reach your grades a little low which could make admission difficult. Remember that at Berkeley you apply to the university and do not apply to Haas until your 2nd year (begin business school your junior year)

Michigan/Ross - reach again grades are an issue. Direct admit to Ross unlkely You wold most likely have to wait to apply during your 1st year if you are admitted to the University

USC/Marshall - low reach again grades could be an issue Otherwise you have a chance because your other credentials put you in as an average applicant. If you are full pay all the better

Emory/Gouizeta - low reach same comments as USC

Tulane - match you should get in here

Georgetown/McDonough - reach your grades are low. all else is average for GU

Good luck on the application process

Honestly, I am struck by how you guys are willing to invest your personal time for my benefit. Writing long and considerate responses to someone you don’t even know, who is also half way around the world. All I can say is Thank You so much Glennu and kwonoverhere!

I would really appreciate some more chances!

Thanks man, but honestly i’m an international student soo yeahh…

How does your GPA look without freshmen grades?

Around 3.85 - 3.9 :D

I would really appreciate it if you could give me some match colleges that I could apply too. Since it seems as though many of my choices are reaches…

The upward trend in GPA and the recalculated GPA without freshmen grades may help your chance at many schools. Although pre-admit to Ross is not likely, you should try UMich LSA and seek for entering Ross in sophomore. UMich LSA would be a high match for you.

Is pre-admit to Ross at UMich that tough? What other programs would Ross be equal to? Is it equal to or better than McIntire of UVa, Goizueta of Emory, Hass of UCBm, Mendoza of Notre Dame…? Please mind my stupid questions. Just wonder how tough Ross would be for us to get into…and what should our kids show to admissions officers for getting into?

GPA is definitely one of the most important factors. This is followed by leadership, and student government. However i believe displaying a general interest in business outside of a classroom environment also plays a role. It helps separate genuinely interested students from those who are simply there for their bumper sticker.

Yes, pre-admit to Ross is tough. Admission rate is below 15%.

Are there any other colleges with great undergrad business programs that are a match for my profile?

I would really appreciate some more responses
