Sorry, forgot to add:

State: TX
Race: Asian
Gender: Female

That might be important?

Why not UT-Austin (McCombs)?

I am applying there, but I believe if people say that I have a reasonable chance of getting in to the mentioned schools, I could probably get into UT since I’m in-state.

All are moderate to low reaches with your stats EXCEPT MIT which is a crap shoot for everyone. If you need money, forget Duke, especially because you are Asian. The Blue Devils accept all the high achievers and squander their scholarship money. If your passion is business, good luck with Penn and Wharton. You could consider at least one of the super-elite like HYPS. Stanford has an excellent business school, too.

Stanford does not offer an undergraduate business degree.
However, you could major in something like economics…it would be a great alternative.

Etoile,

Good…because UT is a great option, especially since you’re in-state. Some of the other schools you’re applying to aren’t super generous with financial aid.

EDIT to add:
You have a reasonable chance at all these schools, with UT-Austin as a safety.

Thanks for all of the input!

UCBChemEGrad: I am not sure whether or not I could call UT as my safety since I am applying to their honors business program. What do you think?

And financial aid is not a huge concern right now because my parents are pretty well off. Although Michigan is verry expensive…

OK…you know better than I do. Even if you don’t get into the business honors program, are you still guaranteed admission to UT under the 10% rule?

Just make sure you have a safety (financial and admission).

UMich is very expensive as is Berkeley…both are pretty stingy with financial aid for OOS admits.

Well technically yes, but I’m only guaranteed into the undecided or liberal arts (I think?) category

My safety will probably be Texas A&M or SMU

I’m sorry, could you explain what OOS means? Hehe, sorry, I haven’t gotten quite familiar with all the acronyms yet.

hi i will chance you, buy could you do the same for me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/534699-chances-upenn-usc-ucla-etc.html</a></p>

you have VERY good academics. the gpa is solid and the SAT is really good. and you show a strong interest in business so here are my chances.

UPenn- Wharton (early decision) match
UC Berkeley safety
MIT- Sloan (the business school) little reach
Duke match
NYU- Stern (the business school) safety
U of Michigan safety

Your SAT scores don’t add up right. As for EC’s, you can start your own business (it does not have to be big; a bike shop or lemonade stand would be fine), invest in stocks, etc. As of now, you have great stats, but need more business related EC’s to be considered for Wharton.

OMG
i just realized I put my first SAT I scores up instead of my final one

REVISED SAT SCORES:
CR: 800
Math: 780
Writing: 760
Essay: 9

Maoskillskid,
Do you have any other suggestions for business EC’s?
Thanks for the advice!

Hi Etoile_x, I’m happy to chance you … but can you chance me as well? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html</a>

I’ll start off by saying that UMich is a very good school and a UMich degree is highly respected around the world. However, you’re an OOS and you’ll be paying tuition that is as expensive as an Ivy League. Heck, that’s why UM is called the Harvard of the West. Anywho, let’s breakdown your stats.

Your grade point is highly impressive – but is that weighted or unweighted? Most schools prefer using unweighted GPAs. Your class rank is also not bad; to be ranked 14th in a class of 959 puts you in the Top 2% of your graduating class, and that is highly impressive (wow your high school must be very huge btw). What helps you more is your challenging courseload … you don’t really give yourself a break, do you? Your first SAT score wasn’t bad, but your second SAT score is even better. A composite score of 2340 places you in the top .5% of graduating seniors in the US. Congrats on that, and I have no doubts that you’ll get that much coveted Semifinalist standing. I won’t be surprised if you get a Finalist standing. I can also see that you’re a talented and dedicated piano player – I quit piano when I was in the 5th grade. Your other ECs are also pretty good, and your internship at UT alone will help you greatly in admissions.

Generally speaking, you’re definitely one of the strongest candidates I’ve seen on CC so far. You will go far in college admissions, but NOT necessarily life. Note that my chances tend to be a little conservative.

Chances:
-The UPenn Wharton School: Match
-UC Berkeley OOS: Safety match (High GPA + SAT) + possible Regents scholarship
-MIT Sloan: Reach –> Match if you win Siemens
-Duke: Match
-NYU Stern: Safety match (SAT is way above average)
-UMich OOS: Safety match + admit into Honors Program + possible preadmit to Ross Busn School + slight reach for scholarship money
-UT Austin IOS: In + admit into Honors Program + scholarship money possible

Good luck!

You don’t have to do business related extracurriculars - sorry if my post was misleading. You do have to actively try showing your interest in business, like taking AP courses and community college courses that relate. EC’s will help. As for what EC’s, I don’t know your particular surroundings. It is up to you to take advantage (key word) of your opportunities. Overall, you are trying to build a theme and show business is indeed your passion.

helloyoung and ab2013…you guys are HYSTERICAL with your “matching” her at MIT. What a load of crap. Same thing with Wharton. You realize that those schools are the best of the best and only the most elite applicants get in, and even then some get rejected. The best applicant in the WORLD is not a match/SAFETY at Wharton and MIT. How hysterical. If you want to say she’s a good applicant so that she’ll then go and chance you then that’s fine…say that she’s a good student and has a shot at all the schools listed. Dont make up some crap about her being a safety at the elite institutions, b/c NOONE is a safety at those schools–or at least very very few are. You dont just snap your fingers and say look im a great applicant Im IN at Ivy League schools. Sorry, but that’s not even close to accurate.

-The UPenn Wharton School: Reach…LOL…Its WHARTON…it wont be as easy as the above guys said it would be…you’ll have a good shot though
-UC Berkeley OOS: I would say its a high match school…meaning you have the numbers to get in without a doubt, but admissions is NOT cut and dry.
-MIT Sloan: Reach…It’s MIT…and it has gotten to that prestigious realm by always being a high reach school for everyone
-Duke: Match
-NYU Stern: low Match…no such thing as a safety here in my book, but you’ll have a GREAT shot at NYU without a doubt.
-UMich OOS: Match…You’ll have a great shot here, but just understand that everything is not as easy as the poster above made it seem…add in more schools, like you have with UT.
-UT Austin IOS: Honors or not you’ll get into a good T school…you might consider Rice also in-state as another school as they are extremely well known for their undergraduate programs

Listen, an HONEST and probably more ACCURATE chance is that you’ll get into one of your top schools. Admissions is not cut and dry at all and I know–and I wont get into it any more than that. That is why noone is really able to say “oh yeah your a match/safety at Harvard…you’ll get in easy.” Its just not something that can honestly and accurately be predicted. You will, I feel from my experience, get into one of your top choices. You’ll also get into a school like UT where you actually might also be happy. SO take some comfort in the fact that you are MORE than competitive at EVERY single school you’re applying to, but probably wont get accepted to all of them b/c that’s just how it is. You WILL…I feel…get into at least one of them. Dont be disappointed if you dont get into all of them b/c for the most part it just doesnt work like that. You’re an extremely good and qualified candidate and will be very very competitive…the key word is “competitive”…it is a competition still.

Good luck

ab2013, how generous is UMich typically with financial aid? and it’s possible to be pre-admitted to Ross?
My GPA is weighted. I don’t know how to convert it to unweighted since my school uses a 5.0 scale. Could somebody tell me how? I would greatly appreciate it! And yeah, my school is HUGE and very competitive. The valedictorians at my school have a history of attending Harvard or MIT.
Thanks for all of the input!

maoskillskid,
do you know if you need to demonstrate knowledge in the area of business for example, in the Penn interview? Will they try to see if you stay up-to-date with the economy or whatnot?

Jman21,
Thank you very much for the honest and realistic insight. And I was kinda skeptical that any of the schools I listed could be considered a safety for me (except maybe UT, but their honors business is still very competitive).

I’m not sure if Rice would suit me since they are not typically known for attracting students wanting to go into business. Please correct me if I’m wrong in this.

Also, I heard that NYU places more emphasis on grades and scores than essays and stuff? Is that right?

Does anybody else have any more input?

It would be greatly appreciated :)

You look pretty good for everything besides Penn and MIT. For those two, you obviously have a decent shot. Wharton seems to love SAT, your rank is good enough for those two places, and your ECs are appropriately varied as well. I honestly have no idea what MIT looks for in an applicant.
