-Family connections at Princeton (Couple cousins went there)

Wash U is my number 1 choice, after that it depends on financial packages. Thanks so much for taking the time to chance me, please be completely honest with your chances.

You will get into WashU. You would probably be in even without running, but running takes the element of chance out of the equation.

Academics: You have a 3.98 gpa so (based on what you say) you’re already bumped out of the top 2%. And though your SAT scores are by no means bad, they’re probably not as competitive as other scores from people in your grade. Academically, HYP would rather choose someone from that top 1% - and they’ll probably have plenty of applicants to go through from your school. But then again you go to a competitive magnet so you don’t necessarily have to be in the top 1-2%.

ECs don’t make up for relatively weaker (not bad at all) academics. The main reason would be the lack of demonstrated leadership. You go to a huge schools so it is probably really tough and you’re probably busy with running, but they want those people who can show leadership. The rest is ok though. When I make my comments, I’m talking about HYP. In terms of WashU, with running recruitment is in your hands. Vandy, should also be within grasp.

100% honesty ≠ 100% accuracy

Thanks for the chances.

I should probably mention…

Class Rank:
Class ranks are assigned based off of weighted GPA’s thankfully. Consequently I’m in the 'top 5% of the class". They don’t partition beyond that to increase students chance in admissions.

Until a few years ago weighted grades weren’t used for ranking. Consequently, students with relatively lighter loads (frequently no ap’s) would have 4.0’s and would constitute most of the top 5% while a large group of students with the most ap’s possible (about 13), but one or more b’s would fall out of the top 5%. Now the new ranking system and weighted gpas are designed to correct that.

Test Scores:
I took the ACT a few weeks ago. I’m hoping for higher subscores that could produce a 36 superscore.

Leadership: Track/CC Captain, Student Government, organized some charity events… that’s what I got ;/

I guess I see your case a little better. I was a little thrown off by your lack of traditional club leadership positions and role in the charity events and by your ranking system. Hopefully you do get that high ACT score (I think I only noticed your SAT before). I presume you have a chance; I just can’t find that thing to latch on to and say “Yes!” WashU is your number 1 choice, so I don’t think you should worry about HYP.

Will you be running at HYP? You have impressive times and you may want to contact the school if it is of relevance. You will get into Wash U and probably Vanderbilt. HYP are high reach without running but you might get it! It’s worth applying to and good luck! Please chance me [Chances for Stanford / Wharton / few others - College Confidential](http://■■■■■■/6OHy9)

Thanks DBlazer. I think you’re right. Today I thought about the other kids from my school applying to HYP and I think the competition takes away any real chance. For example, there’s a kid - great guy I’d be really happy for him if he got it - who is an URM with a perfect SAT, 4.0, hard classes, some solid service work, and he’s a great guy to top it off.

The reason I was thinking about HYP is that at Wash U I’ll have to get merit aid to be able to go and I was thinking it might be easier to simply get in to HYP than to get one of the few merit scholarships at Wash U. I don’t think I’ll get financial aid to Wash U, but I was hoping that with their massive endowments I might get some to HYP. Actually today something great happened though. I thought I would need to get a full ride to Wash U to pay for it (I’m not willing to take loans on the whole thing) but now I just need to somehow get half. I’ll just keep praying.

Pleasechanceme, yeah If I got in I’d walk on at HYP, I’m not fast enough to get recruited status though. I might get fast enough in track next semester, but it’ll be too late anyways. Yeah, I’ll chance you.

O, and I forgot to mention that that guy is low income
