Hello all

This fall I will be a senior in high school. I attend a small, very rigorous, private college prep school in Tucson, Arizona. During April, I managed to visit many colleges in the northeast and northwest, and shortly after developed a list of schools to which I will be applying to.

Masterwork (a unique program my school provides in which a senior student, if he/she wishes to do so, may create a senior project of sorts. This masterwork project is an integration of a student's personal passion and an accumulation of the things he/she has an interest in academically. I will create a 150-200 page graphic novel in which I design the characters and story, draw it out, so on.)

ECs:

President of class in freshman year
Vice President of class in sophomore year
Computer Science --> contributed to creation of school website
National Art Honor Society
Advanced Art and things
Took Japanese language classes at the community college sophomore year
Am taking further Japanese language class at the community college in my senior year
Study abroad in Tokyo my summer before senior year
Did summer art programs/schools during my freshman and sophomore year
Student recruitment committee --> vice president

Race: caucasian

Hook: My masterwork. Masterworks are unique to my school and allow students to demonstrate dedication and passion. Uhm, being from Arizona. Japanese studies and travels. Art interests.

In need of financial aid? No

I will have excellent teacher recs and write a killer essay. So...what do you think my chances are at the following schools:

Bard College
Connecticut College
Grinnell College (my father attended Grinnell, I looked at it and came to like it)
Lewis & Clark College
Middlebury College
Reed College
Skidmore College
Trinity College
Vassar College (top choice, applying ED)
Whitman College

I would deeply appreciate your opinions and, if you have any, suggesstions on other schools I should look into, including safety schools...

Thank you

i live about 1.5 hrs away from grinnell, and a few kids from my high school were recently accepted. I think that you may have a match w/grinnell, especially with the masterworks hook. If you could get your GPA up a bit, it would help, but I think grinnell is slightly artsier-than-average and would be more forgiving.

I'll try my best to get my GPA up, but I just calculated it with estimated grades of my senior year, and I capped at about 3.4 or 3.5, so I cannot really get it much higher...Still, my current is about a 3.3.

Thanks for your input.

Other thoughts?

bump bump bump

bump bump bump

bump...

please?

Bard College- safe match
Connecticut College- safe match
Grinnell College- match (considering your dad is an alum)
Lewis & Clark College- safety
Middlebury College- reach
Reed College- reach/match
Skidmore College- safe match
Trinity College- safe match
Vassar College (top choice, applying ED)- reach/match
Whitman College- match

Bump, thank you for your thoughts.

Any further opinion from others? I would deeply appreciate it.

bump bump bump

university high? lol. to be honest i'm not sure how a required school project will be much of a hook (mostly because it is required) but if yours elaborates on a quirky interest, expand that interest into non-required activities.

Um, masterwork is not at all a required school project...Wait, did I say it was? scrolls up No, lol, it's an option for seniors. Doing a masterwork involves a tremendous amount of work and effort, coupled with the fact that one would have to present his or her masterwork to the administration, and ultimately, the entire school...

Any other thoughts?

bump bump bump

I believe I already chanced you specifically for Vassar on the Vassar thread, however, seeing as you're planning on doing ED to the school (:-)), I'd be happy to have a look at your complete list and give you my take on your chances at the rest of the schools.

Chances on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safety.

Bard College... GOOD FIT.
Connecticut College... LIKELY.
Grinnell College... GOOD FIT. Due to legacy status.
Lewis & Clark College... LIKELY.
Middlebury College... REACH.
Reed College... SEMI-REACH.
Skidmore College... LIKELY.
Trinity College... LIKELY.
Vassar College (ED)... GOOD FIT. SEMI-REACH if RD.
Whitman College... SEMI-REACH.

oh okay sorry. i've heard of a lot of the college prep schools having special required senior programs so i guess i kinda assumed on that one. but since it's something that takes a lot of initiative to do, then definitely it's something good for your rec letters to talk about and such.

Thank you littleatheist and MissBarbara. I deeply appreciate your thoughts!

Haha, and yeah, you chanced me on my Vassar thread littleatheist, but thank you for chancing me at other schools too.
