Virginia Tech is number one on my list at the moment... might be a bit of a reach... but... hey... reaches may be attainable...

Unweighted GPA: 3.2

SAT: 690 CR, 610 M, 710 W (1300/2010) [will take again in September, along with the ACT if it'll help my chances]

School doesn't rank...

Class Council (2 years) [Representative]

Student Council (2 years) [President]

ERASE Club (End Racism and Sexism Everywhere) [Vice President]

Some lesser things...
- Writer for the school newspaper (2 years)
- Key Club Member (3 years)
- Basketball (2 years)
- Football (1 year)
- URM (African-American)
- Volunteer at Church

VT Majors of Interest: Industrial Engineering, Marketing & Operations Management.

I recognize my shortcomings, especially in the GPA aspect... and especially because I haven't taken many honors courses/APs (school restrictions on who can & when people can take APs are ridiculous. That's another topic on its own though...). That's why I'm definitely willing to apply ED if that will increase my chances any.

Chance me regular decision and then chance me on if I were to apply early.

Any questions necessary to get a better idea on me as a student/person, feel free to ask

You’re funny I don’t know much about VTech, but just for that I’ll look it up and give you my two cents.

EC’s look great to me. GPA is pretty low, but if you’ve taken the most rigorous courses in your school and done well in math and science that may help you. Math score is kind of low. I’d definitely try and bring the math up to par with the reading and writing scores. If you think you can do well try taking an SAT II in your best subject. Good test scores will help make up for the low GPA.

Overall I’d say it’s definitely not impossible. Assuming your essays and recs are good and you get the math up, maybe even probable. Can’t hurt to try. They’re not extrememly selective, so go for it. Good luck!

VT isn’t extremely selective, but it is somewhat. I don’t think its a reach for you- more of a solid chance. Retake the SAT, but I’d highly recommend the ACT if you’re used to taking state standardized tests. They follow a very similar format, and I find it to be extremely easy. Your URM status cannot hurt you, and it looks like you really do care about educating yourself, so that should probably shine through your application.

I really do care and I’ll try to show that as much as possible in my essay. My GPA could be several tenths better… I admit to not having exerted as much effort possible though. Eh, hopefully that doesn’t kill me with the colleges I end up applying to.

I would apply ED if this is your #1. Try to raise your GPA, and you’ll have a chance, especially ED. I think you could get in- it’s a range school, I would say. You fall slightly over the avg. SAT range according to my Big Book of Colleges '09. :3 [edit: Wow, they won’t let the name of the book be typed out? It got censored O_o ]
