WIN! Chance me on ONE school. (VERY interesting piece of data also) 8-]

Virginia Tech is number one on my list at the moment... might be a bit of a reach... but... hey... reaches may be attainable...

From North Jersey

Unweighted GPA (Frosh-Jr.): 3.16-3.2

SAT: 690 CR, 610 M, 710 W (1300/2010) [will take again in September, along with the ACT if it'll help my chances]

School doesn't rank...

Class Council (2 years) [Representative]

Student Council (2 years) [President]

ERASE Club (End Racism and Sexism Everywhere) [Vice President]

Some lesser things...
- Employment at CVS/Pharmacy - Customer Service
- Writer for the school newspaper (2 years)
- Key Club Member (3 years)
- Basketball (2 years)
- Football (1 year)
- URM (African-American)
- Volunteer at Church (Not THAT many hours...)

VT Majors of Interest: Industrial Engineering, Marketing & Operations Management.

But get this! I don't know if everyone in the data I'm about to present to you got into say... the ENGINEERING program which is their flagship major aside from one person... who's probably the one with the 4.0 GPA.

<a href="https://connection.naviance.com/fc/colleges/gen_scattergram.php?cid=5859&score_type=4&gpa_type=%5B/url%5D">https://connection.naviance.com/fc/colleges/gen_scattergram.php?cid=5859&score_type=4&gpa_type=</a></p>

This set of data is the acceptance history of graduates of my school who've been accepted to Virgnia Tech from the past two school years (08, 09). Now I can get this information for any school, as long as at least one person from my school was accepted there. I hope your schools have this, too. It's an interesting tool.

And apparently, one point is missing on these scattergrams because our acceptance history (which I found on another part of this website) is 5/5, not 4/4 as you would think based off of this graph.

Also, that 3.053 is the cumulative from my first two years. I got a 3.4-something my junior year which hasn't been put onto the website yet, but if it was, would bump my GPA up to 3.1-something or 3.2 even. And as you can see, my SAT scores were higher than everyone who got in, and my GPA was higher than one of the applicants who were admitted... And I know for a fact that the person (don't know who it is) isn't there on an athletic scholarship because no one from my school's gone D-1A in a sport in years, if not, history.

So... with the data presented.. and assuming I get great recommendations & write a high quality essay... what would you peg my chances at? and also chance me on I were to apply ED.

Thanks.

My school uses Family Connection also. It’s new tool for us but rather handy.

I’d say you want to raise your Math SAT and do well on Math II Subject to have a better shot at getting into VTech Engineering.

Chance me if you get time: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/709285-am-i-track-ivy-stanford-etc.html</a></p>

bump . . . .

Sorry. I’m not sure if the scattergrams are coming up, which is unfortunate… but I’ll just convert the data…

Avg GPA - 3.62
1600 SAT - 1235
Single 2400 SAT - 1800
Combined 2400 SAT - 1825
School’s Acceptance History from the Past 2 Years - 5 out of 5/100%

The scattergram only has four of the five applicants plotted for some reason, but here is the GPA and the SAT of those four…

1) 4.1 , (1370/1380)/2000

2) 3.6/3.7 (hard to tell the absolute PRECISE # on a scattergram), what appears to be a (1350/1360)/1880,

3) 3.4-something, 1230/1820

4) 3.0, 1000/(1590 or 1600)

5) As I said… not sure… but I suppose the person had about a GPA and SAT of the second applicant, for reasons I’m not 100% sure of, but have a pretty decent hunch on.

Being as that only two of these people actually enrolled (don’t know whom they are or which two) and because I only know that one (which I think was the person with the 4.1) is in VT’s engineering program, I don’t know how that would play out for me if I applied to their engineering program. And I know that no one from my school is there on an athletic scholarship…

I know, this is a bit jumbled, a bit sloppy… but… please bear with it and chance me.

Weak GPA…

Very insightful comment there…
