I plan on doing a double major in Spanish and Business, but I think I am mostly worried about getting into CLA, and I chose that as my top choice; then I’ll get the chemistry credit (It didn’t work with my schedule so I couldn’t take it) and apply to CBS. This also might change into an Economics major which is (for some reason) in CLA.
In state student.
Gpa:

Junior year- 2 APs, 2 Dual enrollment
Senior- 1 AP, 6 Dual enrollment
I’m captain of the speech team (and have been on it all four years), in bowling for two years, and NHS for one year (My grades were good for it Junior year, but we moved and the school didn’t have our mailing address so I thought I wasn’t a candidate.) In addition, I wrote about how I used to do Stop-Motion animation (stating I stopped at the beginning of junior year) and how I made my own prom dress last year. Finally, I have a letter of recommendation from a teacher who I’ve known for a long time.
If I submitted this morning, how long do you think I will have to wait until I hear any sort of decision? This school is my top pick and I’m quite anxious about it!
I’m confused. You are applying to CLA but you want to major in business so you would transfer to CBS (College of Biological Sciences)? Do you mean CSOM?
Not sure of your class rank but your ACT is right at the median for enrolled students in CLA:

If you have completed the SRAR and application and submitted, it might take several days for everything to show up on the Application Tracker, NB: this is the first year of SRAR and lots of people are reporting glitches and other problems slowing down UMN’s receipt of grades and test scores. Just just make sure to check the Tracker every other day or so, and call them after a week to make sure they have your complete application.
Once on the Tracker, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few months; no one is guaranteed a result till late January (although obviously people are getting admitted now). Be sure to have some back-ups, including a back-up college at UMN. The application allows you to specify up to two different ones.
The Economics major is in CLA because, like most national universities and colleges, it’s considered a liberal arts discipline. UMN’s economics department is located in Hanson (along with the undergraduate business program) but the major culminates in a BA or BS, not a B.Bus or BS.Bus. Anyone in Carlson wishing to sub-specialize in economics would need to minor in it. If you double major, you’d need to make sure you don’t have to satisfy the degree requirements of two schools/colleges. You can check with your advisor once admitted.
Right, sorry! For some reason I thought of it as “Carlson Business School” and it really shows my proficiency in acronyms.
I’m definitely planning on it; thank you for your input!
^@SpanishMakeup - no worries - messing up the acronym for Carlson happens a LOT.
It’s very difficult to transfer from CLA to Carlson but even if it doesn’t work out, you should be able to do a Management minor. Here are the details:
